Just remind him that suicide is never the right choice to make in any situation. Keep him calmed and relaxed and maybe try to change subjects.

Just tell him happiness is an emotion and sadness is an emotion. When sadness comes upon us it is less rare than happiness so we don't know how to react, especially since its a bad feeling. What you need to realize is that happiness and sadness are emotions. They are not very different, and emotions are temporary. Just like your happiness went away, so will the depression. Things have a way of working themselves out, even through disorder (entropy).
