No, one can use jsp to create website For example look at sun's official website. :)

It really depends on what you want to do in the future. Web mastering or scripting I would assume PHP would be the way to go. If you would rather creat desktop applications, or the occasional online app, JAVA all the way.

It's really a matter of preference here.

they are in different fields in terms of programming. php is a scipting language, while java is a programming language, perhaps you meant javascript?

Java is better... You'll get high salary if you make your programs out of java..

Java and PHP are both good languages. But i would suggest you to go for Java. Java will be good for your future. It has a lot of opportunity. After you have learnt Java, go for J2EE. It will be an added advantage for you.

PHP is used world-wide so it'll be frequently used for a long term, but if you really want to invest in something that is the future, learn .NET languages! as companies are now using .NET frameworks and languages.

Java and PHP is two entirely different things. While Java is a programming language, PHP is a scripting language. If you want to continue developing websites, then you should continue to learn PHP. Now if you want to develop portable applications then you should learn Java.

Java will allow you to make more money and you can write desktop apps as well as web apps with Java. As a Java programmer you can be a "real programmer". :)
 
I prefer java. It is one of, if not the most, used programming languages.

Google is what? = PHP
Facebook is what? = PHP
Youtube is what? = PHP

And how much are they worth together? = Billions and billions of US dollars.

And the only thing that i can think of made in java and made millions of dollars is "Minecraft".
