What's up FK? I'd like your opinion on a detention I received today, which I refuse to serve. Here goes.

To start, I am a very good student, maintaining grades of B+ or higher in every class. I take many AP and Honors courses, and I make it my point to excel in the classroom in order to help my future. Although I do respect the "power" figures, I like to fight authority within my own rights. I am never in the office, and never in trouble for anything because I tend to keep to myself. Two days ago, I was assigned to bring in an advertisement and type up a one to two minute speech about the advertisement. My friend, we will call him Ed, forgot to bring in an advertisement. I texted Ed telling him that I could hook it up for him, and so I printed him out an advertisement. The advertisement was for a tampax commercial, and essentially I gave it to him in private. Only myself, and him saw the advertisement. He left it behind, and our female teacher picked it up, felt offended, and decided to write me up about it. These are the arguments I gave as to why the detention is (for lack of better terms) bullshit, and how I would not be serving it.

Arguments:

-The ad was found and printed through the school's internet, therefore it cannot be that bad or else it'd be blocked

-Essentially anything can be controversial, and my first amendment right allows me to provide controversy

-I cannot be punished for expressing my first amendment right

-I did not disrupt the learning process, nor did anyone feel an offense regarding the topic

-Just because she is offended, does not give her the right to punish me, that isn't my problem

-A mature and responsible adult would have a discussion about it, not immediately punish me

Probably some more, I don't remember all of the conversation.

Here's the kicker, they told me that she felt threatened by her lack of power within the situation. I asked them if the USA was a dictatorship, to which they obviously replied with no. Why does a lack of power threaten a teacher of the public education system then?

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK FK? DO I DESERVE AND SHOULD I SERVE THIS DETENTION?

(My parents agree with me and are defending me to the school administration)

"SO WHAT DO YOU THINK HF? DO I DESERVE AND SHOULD I SERVE THIS DETENTION?"
Now I know where we stand.

Anyways, if I get a stupid detention, I just wad up the paper in front of them and say "No thanks." It gets them every time haha.

Edit:
Forgot to note your punishment is complete horse shit.

OT: Yeah I told the teacher it's ridiculous and I will not be serving it. I called my father, went to the principal and essentially told them that they can speak to him about it because I will not be showing up to it.  My father agrees with me as well.  I made so many fair points, and the administration was dumb-founded as to what to say, I couldn't even get a response with half of the things they said.

People brought in ads with dead people, and cigarettes on them. I told them that those offended me, and I would like those people to be spoken to as well.

You should get passed the punishment and show the tampon advertisement to the class just so she gets even more salty.

I'd say you should just grow up and go to your detention, not like you have something better to do for that 1 hour after school besides browse fk.

That's bullshit, if I where in your situation I wouldn't serve the detention.
She is a high school teacher, not a fucking kindergarten one.If she gets offended by a tampax commercial, boy has she got to open her eyes and see the brutality of the world.

lol she got offended by a tampax commercial

thats fucking hilarious

I will go lightly on you. One, expressing my freedom of speech isn't childish. Your lack of ability to acknowledge my rights, is where you should grow up.

Two, I have work and practice for a national team, so I would certainly say I have better things to do for 2 hours than sit in an empty auditorium being reprimanded for something which women do every single day.

I don't understand why you have to make such a bid deal out of it though. You'll end up spending more time trying to get rid of the detention, talking to administration etc. than you would actually just accepting it. I also don't see why you have to constantly complain about your rights being taken from you. I think you're blowing this way out of proportion man.

Thats a dumb reason for detention I already got detention a couple of times and suspended 3 times for dumb reasons aswell. Just dont go they cant do anything probably just call your parents but your parents are on your side so it doesnt matter

I agree that I am blowing this out of proportion, I just feel it is a matter of principle.  Did I choose an ad in poor taste? Yes, but thats an opinion. I should not be getting punished based on one's opinion.  Tampons are everyday material just like cigarettes, why am I being punished? Because the teacher is a female, and she took offense to it? That's bullshit, she's just power hungry and probably has daddy issues.  I don't mind fighting the detention, and having my parents do the same.  It is a matter of principle, and not being walked all over like the school system so-often believes they can do.

Honestly, despite how small of a matter it is- that's just the thing- a detention is definitely not an appropriate action for your advertisement "controversy". I don't see at all how she would be offended, unless she's having a pretty bad period. Or maybe she just didn't like the brand you chose. /half-serious.

Thank you. It's nice to see that people agree with me. To be quite frank, if the majority of people told me I deserved the punishment, then I would serve it. I keep hearing the same thing "You don't deserve the detention, but just serve it and get it over with." THAT. That is the EXACT problem with our culture and society. If someone in power is wrong about their decision, we don't backdown like cowards about it. I have given so many fair points regarding the topic, to which no faculty members have been able to rebuttal. Administration keeps saying "it was inappropriate". Whenever I ask how though, nobody can give me an explanation as to how so?

TL;DR
If a girl dropped a tampon out of her backpack, should she get a detention for being controversial?

Lol in my school they give you detentions for everything. I think I have like 24 detentions I'm not mistaken.

Why the fuck would she be offended by a tampax ad? Does she have some rare case and can't have her period. LOL WAT. Slap that dumb bitch.

I'm sure she does, it's called menopause lel. She is old and snobby, top lel.
Explains it all then, hopefully you can get off of the detention. Also, the dumb bitch should've had a list of CANNOT's if she is going to throw out a detention over a tampax ad.
