RE: Permanent Bans

Perma ban these guys. Give them no chance they do not deserve the community.

RE: Permanent Bans

Anyone who scams prior to this thread should be banned for 3 months, and forced into the usergroup "TWC" I'll be group leader if you like.

Or you could just be perm. banned? Then most would be happy.

How about we don't and say we did.

Foam harder.

RE: Permanent Bans

A scam is a scam. One person might not think losing $50 is much, but to another user, that could be all they had. So, need to stay consistent for all punishments.

I honestly believe you guys should do the Previous Scammer user title as well as restricting their use of the marketplace forums. People could be the best members on the forum, and scam once, and there goes a HQ member. We don't need to lose any of our HQ members, so, restricting their usage of the marketplace forums would be enough punishment along with the usertitle.

If a member scams, that means there not HQ. We don't need people who think its ok to steal from other members running around the forum. Thats practically the definition of LQ

Not all people who break laws are criminals. Same concept here. If you remove their access to the marketplace forums and brand them as a scammer, they can't do anymore harm anyways and it would raise awareness of the user. If you just ban, the member could start doing business via MSN and scam more users, at least this way, awareness would be raised and they'd still be able to contribute to the site elsewhere.

crim·i·nal/ˈkrimənl/
Noun: A person who has committed a crime. They committed a crime, their criminals. This isn't the same as robbing somebodies house because your family needs food. You don't steal a membership pin to feed your family... Not comparable.

And if their banned for scamming, how does that not raise awareness to not deal with them? No they won't be able to contact the scammer via the website, and if they get scammed over MSN that has no connection to RuneGear and could happen no matter what. Banned or labeled a scammer. Were trying to prevent scamming through RuneGear, and banning them is the best way to do that.

RE: Permanent Bans

A ban is a ban, whoopdy doo. But, if you label them as a scammer, ban them from the marketplace sections, it would be a more humiliating course of action and would say, "HEY DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY, HE SCAMMED."

If the user was just banned, new members and old members alike could think, "hey, this guy just flamed or trolled, he's a respectable guy." This is taking into account the user can still browse the forums and get people's MSN's and talk to them on there. If he was just banned, he could lie about why he was banned. And, not many know about the bans.php page.

So, to ME, this would be the best course of action.

Pretty much everybody knows about the /bans.php page, and nobody is just going to do a deal with a banned member. "I was just perm banned for trolling(which you don't get a perm ban for) its kk you can trust me". No. Also a lot of trolls like AC would scam somebody just to get the special userbar to be different.

Just doesn't seem like the best course of action to me, and judging by the poll most of the members here agree.

RE: Permanent Bans

As a scammer myself, I don't see how you could expect a change within 3 months.

I would never scam normal users, but I do occasionally scam companies. Such as I scam usfine a lot for gold then resell it to them for quick cash, or sell them an account and recover, I see no problem with fucking over companies, but I could never honestly scam a person and expect to feel normal about it.

I feel fine when I scam companies, they steal from you. I bet you most of America under reports there taxes, which is scamming, but it's fine.

I'm not saying allow scamming, because I don't want that, but you cannot expect a full change within 3 months time.

RE: Permanent Bans

It depends.
If its a 1 post LQ idiot, then perma him.
If its a HQ person that just needed "cash". We'll forgive him this once after three months (but never from marketplace).
There needs to be a line, such as how much you contribute that gives you the second chance.

RE: Permanent Bans

Now it depends on what happened, I'd say enforce a court-type scenario where both parties present what they're accusing (or being accused of) and provide evidence such as pictures of trades, MSN logs, PM's, and etcetera to let a group of *chosen* officials decide. Not some run-of-the-mill user though, we need a team of trustworthy people. Maybe a team of 30 that way the jury doesn't have to go against a friend/close aquaintence to be honest. Now back onto punishment, it'd depend on the severity of the scam of course. Over >5M I'd suggest someone taking responsibility and giving the scammed some money (a few people can chip in, 5M isn't a lot) or use a middle man method of trade where the middle man holds money for an extended amount of time in case of accoutrements fraud.

1) All users that scam are banned for 3 months and a permanent ban from Marketplace/Previous Scammers Title.
They deserve to fix what they did wrong.

That also shows scammers that if they do scam It doesn't have proper repercussions

Like if they scam its basically the same as before They get to keep what they scammed and get to keep staying on the forum with a 3 month leave from the forum
Witch they make second accounts and still go on the forum so yea

Thats why I think they should get perm banned

Wrong, if they choose to come back they'll be hated by the community because of their status of being a "Scammer", they'd have to make a real effort to become trusted again.

I voted for the 3 month ban, as someone mentioned everyone deserves a second chance to fix what they did wrong.

RE: Permanent Bans

I think they should only be let back if they refund what they scammed, and then still be banned from the marketplace
