My tip :-
'Get on the designing table only when you feel for it, you won't be able to give even 20% of your desire if you are forced to do...
So how many of you out there are equally good with pencil as they are with mouse ?
I am good with Shading but not with sketching basically because I never practiced it though I am going for it sometime soon as it will enhance my skills much more.

I just thought that I would share this little piece on info which isn't commonly known that GIMP can support the .ABR format of brushes too which is the brush format for Photoshop. Therefore in the brush department GIMP has an edge over photoshop as it supports Photoshop Specific Brushes + GIMP...

Yes it needs a background and more shiny render to suit the theme in my opinion. Also move the text slightly right so that it will align up with the eyes of the guy it will create a nice effect then.
If you have used paths for shaping up the text then I appreciate that Steven however controlling paths for text shaping is really difficult and needs a lot of practice and even after it can do your head in plus the bigger path the more chances of GIMP freezing are there.
Keep it up :)

When I make works for myself they are done whenever I have the desire for it, it can be once in three - four months too. However I have to nearly open up my programs daily for client's works.
Making a reflection is easy.

2) Transform and flip it vertically (procedure depends on the software)
3) Move it and place it below the original text.
4) Apply full White layer mask to it.
5) Select your foreground color as black and set the...
I feel that it's time you should start more on layer effects and filters now. and the sixth one is the best for me because of focus management as you have successfully managed to keep the focus on the name. Keep it up.
