Splatterhouse
Also I just wanted to let you guys know, I change what I rate games on every time I review a game.
Storyline: This game has an okay storyline. Which is terrible because all this game HAS is it's story. Besides the Aaaaammmaaaaazing gore and soundtrack, this game story is what backs it up. The developers and writers of this game really did not care about story and hoped it would all be backed up by the gore and music. Which it is, but that's beside the point! You are Rick, a mild-mannered nerd who, with his girlfriend walks into a mansion late at night for unknown reasons and then rick is close to murdered and his girlfriend is taken from him. As rick's intestines are falling out of him a mask calls out to him and tells him to put it on. The mask rejuvenates him and makes him a complete badass. He then chases after the "doctor" who stole his girlfriend and has to beat up baddies in the most violent way possible. It's okay and it flows well, but it's just so dull that you don't even know it's there. The ending also sort of creeps up on you and then you suddenly remember this game HAS a story. It's weird. lol
4/10
Gameplay: Unfortunately the gameplay is very repetitive. It's tons of fun, but you can get bored of it very quickly. You mash buttons, god of war style, and you unlock upgrades for your moves by collecting "blood". This blood gives the mask his power which you can use to unlock new moves and upgrades. These offer variety, but no where near the level of, for example, Prototype. It's actually almost the same system. The AI is very weak, but in a beat-em up that doesn't even matter. It's tons of fun for about an hour at a time. And I would be willing to take this game three times or so through. Considering I'm an achievement whoar, I would do it for that.
7/10
Presentation (Graphics / Voice Acting): The game has very very good presentation.
Like I said before, this game is FILLED TO THE BRIM with nasty sh*t. When people though Dead Space 2 was bad, they didn't see anything. This game has so much blood it's almost hard to tell what's going on at some points. The blood covers every square inch of the screen at some points and it also goes everywhere in the room you are in.
Complimentary, the voice acting is superb. It might seem cheesy at some points, but it is top-notch. The mask is a complete riot and you will laugh your ass off all the time. Rick never really talks but when he does it isn't bad at all. I'm actually glad this game is so full of itself with all the gore because that distracts you from the story and the textures that sometimes don't appear. Just a couple glitches appear here and there, but it isn't that bad.
The menus in the game are a bit laggy and jumpy which makes it hard to navigate, but it's not too bad. It WILL NOT ruin the game for you.
The soundtrack is amazingly brutal. At points while fighting bosses and lots of enemies you will stand up and bang your head to all the awesome metal that is complimenting the gore.
The Extras in the game are abundant with models, sketches, and even all 3 old Splatterhouse games (Yes this WAS a franchise), you will have quite a bit of fun going through the game.
Final Verdict: 6/10
Even with all it's many problems, this game is tons of fun and I had a blast playing through it. I recommend everyone try it at least once.
Any questions just ask!
