This is true. @Bradlay if the attacker reversed the $200 that you paid Michael, you now have an extra $200.
So technically, Michael paid for your group, and you owe him back.

If he paid me back, I'd basically be at $0 on PayPal, since it would take away all the negative balance. I'd rather be compensated for a free group.
