Why does Internet Explorer do this?

Idk if it's on all the sites i visit, but on RuneGear, if I get a new nudge, or new PM or w/e. I have to refresh my page to actually see the "New Pm" or the actual new Nudge... -- I use Internet Explorer. Why does it do this to me?
