Okay this is going to be a longer thread so brace yourselves.
On the way to the gym today I was thinking of a way to make a name for myself and give back to this community. As I was walking up the hill and approaching the gym I was thinking that currently, I have some spare time. So I than began to ponder the idea of if there was anything beneficial I could provide to this forum. Beforehand I had been playing around on Photoshop creating an email leaflet and thus, that was on my mind.
I then thought it would be a good idea to create a tutorial for Photoshop; how to create certain texts and such. Once I'd journeyed home from the gym with this idea still in mind I decided the check the "Graphics" section of our forum, and to my anticipation tutorials on an array of different text effects and such had a home inside this sub-forum.
The thing is with these tutorials, you don't actually learn anything about Photoshop. You don't learn a set of fundamental skills that broaden your creativity on the programme. You learn to do what the person tells you to do with stocks, vectors and brushes that they supply. It's like learning one chord for a guitar and then trying to make a song out of it. It's not really beneficial, but most of all, it's not fun.
With forum or video tutorials, you don't get the opportunity to question the video maker. You can't query, you can't ask why and you can't tell the guy to stop breathing so damn hard.
That's why I was thinking that as a community, we could come together and host almost like a school. Now I know you guys have just read the word "school" and the thought of moving your cursor up to that back button has most definitely crossed your mind, but just hear me out.
If we could schedule a tinychat, for instance every Tuesday at 7PM GMT, with someone who is an expert in Photoshop to hold "lessons" where they go over the basics of the programme and progress into more challenging areas as time goes on, then people would begin to understand how to use Photoshop effectively. Not only would it be a learning experience, but it would be a social activity and it would bring people together.
We would need someone who is confident in the field, someone who can answer questions and show alternatives in their passage of work. We also would need people that wouldn't mind donating towards the cause. Once I've finished with my RAT I have no problem in funding this via paying the hosts of these sessions per hour for example.
But then it occurred to me, why stop at Photoshop? It's a RuneScape related forum that links in with account hacking. Why not have these sessions involving hacking? We could have: How to set up a RAT, How to build a phisher, Effective ways to spread; the possibilities are endless. If this idea is to proceed, then we need volunteers.
If you guys think that this is a good idea, then great! Your support is helpful and don’t be afraid to give me it. If you think this is a stupid idea, feel free to gun me down; but a much better alternative is to give suggestions to improve upon an idea. Write what you feel and try to better this idea. Bear in mind this is only a suggestion.
