Okay let's get this straightened out because I'm sick of uneducated shitheads just repeating what they are told by the media. Unless you've been in a coma for the past couple of years, especially more so recently, you're aware of the huge stories that have broke revolving around police brutality and discrimination against blacks. There is this notion that the police are discriminating against blacks. Why? Because that's what the media tells you. It's being blasted all over TV, the newspapers, the internet, etc. No way would this be as big of an issue if the media wasn't blowing it way out of proportion.

Let's look at some statistics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps data on fatal injuries. From 1999 to 2011, one category is homicides by legal intervention. Legal intervention means any situation where a person dies at the hands of anyone authorized to use deadly force in the line of duty.

From 1999-2011: 2,151 Whites were killed by cops; 1,130 blacks were killed by cops.
However, that's just the face value. More whites are killed than blacks because the country is made up of 63% white and 12% black. Which means there is a much higher ratio of black people being killed by police. Why is this?

Candace McCoy, a criminologist at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, said that blacks might be more likely to have a violent encounter with police because they are convicted of felonies at a higher rate than whites.
Felony: everything from violent crimes like murder and rape, to property crimes like burglary and embezzlement, to drug trafficking and gun offenses. Basically these are the serious crimes. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that in 2004, state courts had over 1 million felony convictions - 59% were committed by whites and 38% by blacks. Factor in the population ratio of whites and blacks aforementioned and you'll see that the felony rates are 330 per 100,000 whites and 1,178 per 100,000 blacks. That's more than a three-fold difference.

Felony rates for poor whites are similar to those of poor blacks. states, "Felony crime is highly correlated with poverty, and race continues to be highly correlated with poverty in the USA.

If you cooperate and don't challenge a police officer, he might be an asshole, to you but he won't kill you. Someone facing a felony is more likely to act in dangerous behavior obviously.

To sum this up, it's no secret that there are discriminatory issues. No system is, has been, or ever will be perfect. It's the human factor we have to deal with in life. Don't be the person that says "omg cops are all corrupt, racist jerks out to punish us" just because a handful of them may be (and those that are will face the consequences for their actions obviously). Putting police officers in suspect classification is the same as saying all black people are bad because a handful of them are. You can't generalize like that. Educate yourself. Look beyond the surface. Before you formulate an opinion, do some research and find facts, not just what the media feeds you. The worse it looks, the more traffic they get. Bite the hand that feeds you.

We live in a generation where people scrutinize politicians, police officers and other legal structures rather than support them. Stop bitching unless you're going to do something about it. Write your congressman. Shit, BECOME one. Work hard for it and do it. Petition bills. Protest. Just stop the senseless destructive of shit that people have worked hard to build before you.

What is your opinion on this video?

Kaboom ;) I agree completely with the councilman. A lot of what's going on in Baltimore right now is the result of people who don't have much and just wanted an excuse to act out. There is no good outcome to destroying your own city. Ripping down the product of many hard workers who have sacrificed much more than we can imagine. Call them thugs, idiots, criminals, whatever. Simply put, we're looking at the demographic most commonly left out. Poor pissed off people trying to get attention.

I saw an interview where a lady was asked why she was doing it. Her reply? "Because... I don't know I mean everyone else was so I wanted to"

Peaceful protesting would work, not this.

"Candace McCoy, a criminologist at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, said that blacks might be more likely to have a violent encounter with police because they are convicted of felonies at a higher rate than whites."

So basically what this guy is saying is that because more black people have chosen to supplement their income with the sale of drugs, (Drug arrests make up the majority of felony cases, cbf to find the exact number atm. Fact check me if you like.) that its ok to assume that a black person is guilty of a crime before they even have probable cause to search a person. So by that logic its perfecrly acceptable to arrest people for any reason.
