strict or not strict?

I and my four siblings raised by my grandmother. We are very blessed that even if we didn't have my mother who has to raise us, we have our grandmother with us.
She was really strict! We cannot go out of the house after 6pm. We are not able to go with a date. We were closed inside the house and cannot go out to play with friends. These things that I didn't like during childhood days.
Do you think that being strict could be fine to the kids or will it be worst because of having some effects to them when they grow up? Please let me know your ideas.

Well my dad is pretty strict and my mom is a worrier so basically we have the same situation. I grew up with a lot of restrictions and a lot of untried things. So well as a person I'm rather shy and timid. But now that I am older my parents can actually see what I've been missing and began to loosen up. So pretty much my development is normal.
