sql file help

i have a .sql file that i want to open...but how do i open it?

i opened with notepad (crashed
-wordpad (crashed)
-notepad++ (it looks super messed up)

Personally i have XAMPP on locahost so i just import into phpmyadmin but alternatively there are many SQL browsers out there im sure you will find something in 1 second on google.
