Sleepless Nights

I am having a graveyard hospital duty schedule. In other words I am awake at night time and asleep at day time.

It is so bothersome for me because even though I sleep in the morning it really feels different when I sleep at night. I hate these sleepless nights. It's making me thin and unhealthy.

Have You tried not sleeping at night? What do you do to feel better in the morning?

I have slept both during the day and at night. I think I much prefer sleeping during the day then at night as the night time is much more quieter and peaceful and I rather enjoy it a lot to be quite honest. However having to switch sleeping schedules can be very hard to do.

Yes actually I once had the habit of using internet the whole night and sleeping when sun rised. It really sucked and no matter how hard I tried to change that habit I could never for the life of me slep at night. It did affect me a lot, my school activities and stuffs. ANyway i slowly managed to fix my time table again.
Anyway I hope you get a day duty soon. Take care

I used to be very much like this. My eyes are very sensitive to light (they were a lot worse when I was younger), therefore I used to sleep during the day and do my stuff at night. It's more difficult to do as you get older because natural habits kick in and one of those is to sleep when it is dark. Besides, when it comes to going to work or school or college or whatever you do, all of that must be done during the day. You will pass out of this stage for sure, don't worry about it for now and just go with the flow of your body.

Wow it feels good to know someone could relate to this. I know it really sucks right because even when we sleep at day it is not the same quality of sleep we get at night. Plus when I am not on duty and I have classes at school I feel like a zombie and my mind is not awake.

I'm going to have a day duty for the next semester. So I have 10 weeks more to bear.

Thanks Grumpy. I hope you are right. I want my normal sleeping time. I don't want to get used to this sleepless night thing. It's just not the same even if I get long hours of sleep at day. And yes it is affecting my school performance.

I also tried your case when I had my graveyard shifts however, I could easily sleep during the day since I am used of being an insomniac. Just try to get enough sleep and drink warm milk.

Lucky for you, you can easily sleep at daytime. Thanks for the advise. I do drink milk but the cold one. I prefer fresh milk than warm milk.

You know the logic of drinking warm milk, right? It is for the body and the release of serotonin that is also responsible for the sleep and wake cycle. Sometimes, the disruption of our circadian rhythm is inevitable but we need to maintain homeostasis so I our body must need to compensate for the loss sleep (sleep debts). You can also try a relaxing shower.

when i don't have enough sleep at nights or when i don't really have sleep, i just drink coffee or energy drink. also, i ate a lot of sweets (for energy!).
sometimes, i exercise in the morning to loosen up some muscles :)

Thank you. You know a lot about sleeping problems. Your advise are very helpful and easy to follow. I will surely apply it in my routine.

I like coffee as a drink, but it doesn't really wake me. Hahaha. I will try exercise. Thanks.

I wouldn't mind working the midnight shift. I like the night time, so for me it would be wonderful. I don't think sleeping during the day will make you thin and unhealthy. I think you just need to exercise. When you get home, try taking a small walk before you go to bed. Set the alarm for a descent time so that when you get up, you gan have some time outside. Basically, pace yourself.

Thanks for the advise Inertia. I think it's just because I am not yet used to the schedule. And yes I think I need activity. Because what I've noticed is after my duty when I reach home I sleep right away and I don't even eat lunch and I when I wake up it's already 4 pm.
