ask them to get you a new custom PC...
PC>Xbox>ps3 imo
if you litterally don't want a new computer because you either don't like pc gaming or already have a good one, I suggest xbox for your personal use. If you don't like paying the fee's, ps3 is just as good.
(these are my opinions of course)
XBOX: more user friendly, and you can do parties where you can vc with people, just updated to have a browser and can handle youtube, but to play xboxlive you have to pay monthly
PS3: less userfriendly (a slight tad bit harder to navigate, but some people find it easier. You'll have to check it out yourself to say for sure), but you can do a little bit more on the ps3 'dashboard' than you could do with the xbox (such as custom game screenshots to be set as your background. Example is tekken 6.) Another plus is that it is cappable of better graphics on just about every game, blueray capabilities, and it doesn't require a monthly fee to play online.
