Talking about UK here if your number is officially ex directory they dont get your number from lists and they cant do cold calls..

Sort of offtopic, but when we used to get spam calls from machines, we would always swear at them. One time I thought it was a machine and starting swearing, then I heard a women crying and hung up.

Lol, kinda of funny you say this. I HATE picking up the home phone, but my sister always does and it's normally some slob who I don't want to see asking me if I want to come round his house.

I don't have to pick up any calls that are within a certain region from me because it rings twice for out of my region and three times for out of country. One ring for in region, in which case 5% of the time its a telemarketer, 50% it's a credit card company wanting money, 30% its miscellaneous, and 15% it's my friends.
