FML. I just got back from my dentist and found out I need to remove all four of my wisdom teeth. Since I was a little boy, I'd dreaded this day and now it's finally here.
My sister had it done before (all four) and the aftermath could not have been worse. She had everything you could imagine; non-stop bleeding, incredible swelling, bruises, etc. At one point, she surpassed blue bruises and her cheekbone became green!
I guess that's what really drove me to be more scared. But I looked over the internet for people that have done it before and the majority say that the extraction procedure isn't bad at all but rather, it's the aftermath that's non-indulgent.
My dentist asked me whether I'd like to have the surgery done at their complex or through surgery with anesthesia. Having been influenced by my sister's dreadfulness, I was scared shitless and told her I'd much rather be asleep. But after reviewing some stories about people that have gotten this surgery, those of whom were awake, most of them say that all four teeth are removed in less than a minute and another minute or so to stitch up each tooth's gum.
There are two reasons I don't want to be awake for this surgery:
but nothing to help me overcome the fear of being awake and seeing them crush my face in. That's all in my head.
I'd really love to be able to do this surgery having just froze my face without being put to sleep because it will save me a lot of money and time but I just don't see it happening.
For those that have done it, do you have any reassuring advice to help me overcome this and just get it over and done with? I've been brainwashed by all those people saying 'It hurts, oh my god, I hope I never have to do it'.

There are two reasons I don't want to be awake for this surgery:
- I feel like if I actually see them fiddling and poking around inside my mouth, I'll be more paranoid and freak out.
- The pain of the surgery itself.
The only thing you feel when they are cutting your gums and digging those teeth out is a lot of pressure. Its amazing! Usually your surgeon will tell you when force is coming so you can anticipate it.
