Amp said:Halo: Reach was a terrible game, and a disgrace to Halo.
Cann!bal said:That's quite debatable. Reach was magnificent, the multiplayer matchmaking was fun, yet competitive. What's your reasoning for thinking otherwise?
Amp said:It was just a completely different game, with a much different feel than the previous games. It also caused many people to essentially quit Halo, me being one of those people, as well as a lot of my friends.
I feel like they tried to change too many things, with the bloom, different guns, the general feel of the game, ect. They also tried to make forge something different, but they ended up ruining the significance of the great maps and the builders behind them.
It also took away from the competitive feel of everything, not only by taking out the ranks, but by the playlists, and it was even taken out of the MLG circuit, and made its own ALG. (Bet you haven't heard of that).
There's many more reasons to why I feel this way, as well as a lot of other people. But for the most part I think it was just too big of a change that ended the greatness of Halo.
Cann!bal said:I disagree, it was not an entire different game. Obviously it was going to different with all the changes, but the changes were a success. It seems like you and your friends barely even gave Reach a chance.
Practically all changes that Bungie made for Halo: Reach was a success However, I can agree with you that the ranking system was awful, but the point of it was to make it a noob friendly ranking system. The guns of Halo: Reach were also a success, what guns are you referring to? There were no bloom and TU playlists if you didn't like bloom. I loved the general feel of the gamer personally. Halo: Reach forge was absolutely awesome, I seriously can''t believe that you said that. They didn't ruin anything relating to forge.
I highly disagree that it took away from the competitive feel. Pretty blatant you have never played any top 10% arena onyx matches or any intense matches MLG playlist games or customs. Halo was dropped from the MLG circuit simply because of historical attendance numbers, not because it was uncompetitive. I actually have heard of AGL: Arena Gaming League.
Well, please do elaborate then. Halo: Reach's changes did not end Halo's greatness, really silly of you to say that.
Amp said:The guns like the DMR, Sniper, Carbine, Beam Rifle were all changed. Made the game play different, also, they took out power ups and added the stupid classes. Power ups brought map knowledge and timing, and without them there was really nothing that replaced that part of the game.
Amp said:Also the Bloom made a lot of people disregard from the game, you may not of noticed it, but a lot of people did. With the play of the game, and the stupid playlists they added. I found myself forcing myself to play the game to find enjoyment out of it, and after awhile, I just ended up playing Infection as that was the only thing that kept me somewhat interested.
Amp said:Forge, was good. But they ruined it in a way. They tried to make it what it was before, but it was almost too much. With Halo 3, you could be playing a map that was simply amazing, but that exact map wouldn't be the same in Halo: Reach. Simply because it was too easy to do everything, it made all the maps essentially have less of the significance they had in Halo: 3. Sure there were some fun ones, how could there not be. But it just wasn't the same. Almost same thing goes for the entire game.
Amp said:Let's break it all down:
Removed Halo background, no BR/Carbine, different vehicles, again, Forge.
They didn't really have the fun things Halo had before, at least it was different, 2XP weekend, Play with Bungie, favorites.
Snipers weren't the same, it was way easy to snipe someone in Halo: Reach.
The playlists were boring, especially without the old ranking system.
Spartans vs. Elites was annoying.
Bloom took away from the Halo feel.
Load-outs: Took away from spawn knowledge, power ups, map knowledge, ect.
Competitive wasn't the same way as before. Everything was played differently.
Forge was less fun, even though you essentially had more to do. Sounds weird.
Custom games, they were different, less fun.
I feel like this is very cluttered, but maybe you see my point.
Cann!bal said:The DMR was never in Halo 3, therefore, it was never changed. Quite blatant that made the gameplay different, but that doesn't lower the significance of the game. Power ups could still be timed in the MLG playlist. Load outs replaced them perfectly.
I did recognize people disliked it, I played Reach every single day. I have over 70 days worth on playtime on it, probably more, and a tenth of it was spent whilst listening to my friends whining about missing a shot because of bloom. Infection is an awful and uncompetitive playlist.
That's absolute malarkey. They're remakes, replicas, not the same thing, and not on the same game. Of course they're not going to feel the same, but in no way does that downgrade the overall significance of the maps or more importantly the game.
Halo: Reach was never suppose to be a remake of Halo 3. Plus, you're completely ignoring every success of Halo: Reach.
Stop talking about the past, innovation and change keep video games running. If they were to have never change anything the Halo franchise would have never made it this far. Video games characteristics are subject to change and just because the sequel to a video game franchise doesn't feature an attribute you enjoyed, does not mean, therefore, this game 'is a terrible game, and a disgrace.'
