PlayStation 3 System Software Update 4.0
Recently, Sony has released the PS3 4.0 software update. Some would think that this would be a major update for PS3, but, instead, directs towards future PlayStation Vita owners and PlayStation Plus Subscribers. Overall, many fans have said this has been a huge disappointment and are very unhappy with it.
Main Features Revised in System Software Version 4.0
Support has been added to integrate with the PlayStation Vita system:
- Receive messages sent using the Group Messaging feature of the
-[/size] PS Vita system
- Share content from PS3 to PS Vita systems
- Back up various types of files saved on a PS Vita system
Secret Update Information (does not tell you about it)
- Delete PS VIta System's Backup Files
If you choose to store your PlayStation Vita data on the PS3, you will now be able to delete the backup data by going to the System Settings
- Easy Access to PlayStation Plus from the XMB
A new PlayStation Plus Icon on the XMB allows easy access to the PlayStation Store.
- Privacy Settings Added
Privacy is important. The new update provides more privacy for users by allowing you to choose whether or not you want to receive a friend request or friend message from someone you don't know. Your settings also affect your profile on the PS VIta
- Health Warning
This one was probably for Sony's own safety. Now when the PS3 logo shows up, expect to see a short Health Warning.
- Remote Play Settings on the VIta
If you have a PSP you might already be aware of the Remote Play feature. Now the PS Vita can do it also. This can be access on the Remote Play Settings
- PS VIta System Application Utility
If you buy PS Vita applications on the PlayStation Store a new folder on the XMB unde the Game Menu will be available.
- UK English Language Support
UK English language is now an available option to choose from under the menu.
Recent Issues with System Software 4.0 Update
Fans have reported system freezes with their console since updating to 4.00 on the official PlayStation forums.
"I updated to 4.0 and now when I fastforward time then enter a building in skyrim it freezes the system," ,says a PS3 player playing the RPG Skyrim.
"I'm having the same issue. I have formatted the PS3 twice now, but it hasn't gotten any better. Quite frustrating.", another player says.
Some users have reported the PS3 freezing at 50% through the installation, and sometimes when a game is being read.
Before you update, please understand these issues occurring, and choose to follow through at your own discretion.
