Problems with Apple ipod 4G

Hi Guys last week my brother bought ipod 4G, It is amazing but we are facing a problem with that ie it is discharging witin 5-10 hours and it is just switched off. If we charge immediately it is not responding. After one day or two days when we connect it to system then it is responding with charging symbol and it will work for some time. Can anyone suggest me what to do?
