  • eassy to understand
  • easy to code
  • portable
  • robust

Well, all these factors are determined on your skill level right now involving computer programming, how much you're willing to learn, how hard you're willing to work, and the dedication you'll put into it. After saying these factors, then we can say which language is best for you.

Well he's asking what do you think makes a programing language so popular to use. The overall factor has to be if its easy to use.
 
I think all the factors included but you really miss a point that is "security" and "Platform". I think that these two were more Important.

Ya you are right the mention factor by you can contribute to a programming language's popularity but you miss one thing that is security.

For hobby development, I find platform independence to be a great quality in a programming language. I also like a versitile language, like java. It's very easy to make GUI applications, web apps, or console apps.
