Let me first start out by saying that I am very, very grateful for the opportunity given by Bleepy. I appreciate it, and I've thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the team.
I originally became a moderator here at CTF in March of this year. I can remember the classified ad that Bleepy posted on another forum. I can also remember trying to find every single possible way of contacting Bleepy to reply to ad that I could. I sent him a few PMs on that site, a PM or two here, sent him messages on MSN, and if I remember correctly, he had a few different email addresses that I also contacted. What can I say? I was excited, I had been wanting to be a mod on a forum for a while, and this was my chance. The bonus was that it's a forum based on a topic that I know well, and enjoy.
In my opinion, I think it's safe and fair to say that I was a pretty active moderator. If I'm not mistaken, I was the first moderator, and Deadly was staff (super mod). The whole team went about our daily business, visited the forum, cleaned up spam, etc. It was maybe a month later, that the current moderator, Eb0y, was "recruited." I was happy to have someone else to work with. Again, we went about our days.
Then, out of nowhere, Carolus Magnus showed up. He was a moderator. As I'm sure most of us still do, I was unable to figure out how to correctly pronounce his name. There were now three moderators, Carolus, Eb0y, and me. One staff member, Deadly, and two administrators, Bleepy and Scrappy CoCo. Carolus was, and is a great moderator.
A few months ago, I logged into CTF, and saw that I had a blue username. I didn't know what to do. I immediately went to Bleepy and thanked him. Deadly was also promoted to administrator. I think I congratulated him. If not, congrats on your promotion, deadly! amitoolate?
Anyway, I continued to do my best at moderating, and without Carolus knowing, I went to Bleepy a few times and personally recommended him, even asking to have Carolus as a teammate. I recall Bleepy's response being that the team was working great how it was, and there wouldn't be anymore major changes for a while, this is how I took it. I said okay. Just something to consider in the future. After being staff for a while, I developed the goal of becoming an admin here at CTF. I knew there probably wasn't much of a chance, and even Carolus disagreed with the goal, stating that there would be too many admins for the size of the forum if I were to achieve that goal.
Just recently, there were some staff rule changes that I disagreed with. In my mind, I argued my points as politely as possible. The response I got was essentially, "that's the way it's going to be, if you don't like it, well then..." Of course, this is not my forum, it's not my place to tell the admins, especially Bleepy, what to do. It's Bleepy's forum. He had every right to say what he did. The above-referenced debate lasted a while, and really got me thinking about "retiring" from my position. I held back. I really, really loved being staff, and figured I could adhere to the new rules with no problem. So I did.
Fast-forward to just today. Bleepy and I got into an, in-the-end, pretty heated argument about, of all things, R/C car transmitters. I periodically checked the forum throughout my school day today to see if there were any responses. There was a response from Bleepy simply stating that I don't know what I'm talking about. Let's get something straight, I've been doing R/C for about five, yes, five years now. Sure, that's not as long as many, but that's also not to say that I don't know what I am talking about. I surely don't know everything there is to know. But in this case, I have first-hand experience, I've done the research on the subject, and to boot, I am a licensed communications radio operator in my country. I passed the test, I know a little something about radios, and radio frequency. Bleepy and I argued back and forth, I also claimed that he didn't know what he was talking about. In the end, I feel that neither of us handled the conversation correctly. If I could go back and redo it, I would. Bleepy removed me from the team, Carolus *may* take my place. I wish I was still on the team, but I gained great experience with regard to moderating, and forums, while I was a team-member. And for that, I thank these people specifically: Bleepy, Deadly, Carolus, and Eb0y.
I wish CyberTechForums, the staff team, and all the members, the best of luck in the future.
