I'm not a fan of it is all. Never liked those noob friendly distros like Ubuntu, Fedora, Kubuntu, etc. I get bored with them easily.

No it's not not not.

It's a great distribution.

It's similar to Ubuntu and CentOS. Bleepy said he liked Ubuntu.

Im only really liking the GUI of them, I have no idea what the differences are other than that.

Just some distros look really old and off putting. At Uni they have Debian and looks a bit :/

Debian isn't really a good choice unless you're very advanced, have a specific need for it, or are making a server.

Atm it looks like your both against each other

Carolus likes Arch (likes is an understatement I think )
Factor thinks Arch is too advanced for a linux newb.
Factor thinks Fedora is a good starting point.
Carolus thinks Fedora is "bad bad bad".

Fedora or CentOS as a starting point. Note that Debian and Ubuntu are interchangeable, as are Fedora and CentOS, but you cannot mix Fedora with Debian or Ubuntu, or CentOS with Debian or Ubuntu. So if you learn with one packaging system, then stick with it.

Fedora, CentOS, Red Hat = YUM packaging.

Debian, Ubuntu, (maybe Arch?) = APT packaging.

I don't think Arch uses it. It uses Grub or Nano or summat. It might use it though, I'm just not that sure.

Install Ubunutu aside windows and GRUB will have the options to boot into windows or linux.
