I love animals way too much

My cat brought in a baby bird early yesterday morning. Around 1am. I of course had no clue where it was from and I was stoked to take care of it. It was cold and near dead when I found it on the floor. (actually my girlfriend spotted it) and I warmed it in my hands until it was responsive again. I then rifled through a bunch of stuff until I found a water sack, meant to hold warm water and keep it warm. I filled it with warm water and made a nest over it with tissues and socks. I put him in there and he was warm and toasty.

He had feathers so he didn't have to have a strong external source of heat. I know a lot about birds, I love them so much. So don't get me wrong, he was in the right hands. I went to the store right when they opened this morning to buy baby bird formula.

As some of you may know, I was recently evicted from my home and money is a huge issue. I'm saving up for a scorpion because I love them very much and this money came out of those funds. I raced back home and made some formula. The bird at this point was as healthy as ever and very active. He was chirping loudly and he begged me for food as if I was its mother. It was heart warming honestly.

I fed this thing every 12 minutes for a good 12 hours today. Earlier this night he was acting very weak and tired. I prayed he was just tired, as baby birds go to sleep at night and don't need to be fed. I kept checking on him and he just seemed weaker and weaker.

He died about 2 hours ago.

To be honest I'm fucking devastated. I worked very hard to take care of him and I was fully prepared to stay at home for 2 weeks and feed him every day sunrise to sunset, every 12 minutes. You may ask why I didn't take him to a vet or bird place. It's because we don't have a local bird rehabilitation and what the vet would do is put it in "intensive care" and have the bird people pick it up. At the birds age, the stress would have killed it. It's a far drive too.

This bird most likely died from internal injuries. I pulled him out of his nest carefully his last time because he looked so weak. He struggled and twitched his leg, and died in my hands. That may sound dramatic but it's the truth. I am so extremely sad I cannot even express. Yes, over a bird. I loved him and just wanted to be there for him so he could survive his separation from his nest.

Rest in peace, Hood.

That's terrible D:

I'm so sorry man, You have a kind heart taking it in and protecting/feeding it. You did a good thing, may the bird rest in peace. :(

My cat wriggly kills mice and Birds all the time Its natural
And my other cats do their part and Kill flies that come into the house

Idk For me I wouldn't get worked up about it but yea
If you touch teh baby bird it will have a different scent on it so the mother wouldn't allow it back into their nest so yea It really only had two choices after you touched it
Die or Go through life solo

Don't get worked up about this to much Its just nature

I know it's the cycle of life but it was like... I don't know how to describe it. I cared very much for it, I really love birds and I strongly value life.

By the way, that's not true. If you touch a baby bird the mother will not reject it. Known as an "old wives tale" to get kids not to touch baby birds. But tons of people think it's true.

Good man.

I plan on doing animal rescue after my time in the military.

Bad luck man :(
Glad you looked after it so well :)
