why do filipinos want to have fairer or whiter skin while most caucasians die to have a tan? i have friends who have natural golden skin and they're proud to have it. i respect each and everyone's opinion and preference to whatever skin they would like to have but i hope you guys will enlighten me why do other people want to have fairer skin than what they have.is it because the media shows that having whiter/fairer skin connotes beauty?whatever happened to the saying "black is beautiful?" or for filipinos "brown is beautiful?"
 
I am caucausian and very white, when i tan, I DON'T I burn... I don't want darker skin though, I like the skin I'm in, and believe everyone should do the same, however to each their own.
 
I have fair skin but i want to have white skin. that's life lol,,we are not contented if what we have..example if you have fair skin you want to be white..if your white you want to have a fair skin.that is the one reason..people don't have contented for what they have.
 
I also have fair skin and I am contented with what I have. I am just curious coz here in the Philippines, tv commercials and other advertisements have products for whiter/fairer skin. Filipinos spend a lot of money buying these products and it just bothers me because some even sacrifice the budget they have for food just to buy these beauty products.Thanks so much guys for posting here and I hope other will also cite their opinions about this topic here.
 
It's always a media effect... just like "thin/fat is better".
I live in Europe and in summer there are people who risk to get some melanomas because they sunbathe with oil and not with UV protection cream because they want to get tanned fast. It's a really sad thing... I'm proud to have a fair skin, well, I'm a gothic girl, so it's obvious... I'd like to have it whiter too.
 
Being white like milk... doesent give anyone a nicer look,
If u get a tan... u most likely look better... altho not everyone looks better whit a tan.

Well, it depends on own features: a nordic guy with black skin isn't so nice and a center-african person with white skin is too strange.

Because most filipinos look up to the people who has fairer skin. that's a fact. if you're poor but has fair skin, people will admire you and you most probably get a job compared to someone with not so fair skin and has the same status in life as you.

this is a sad fact if it really happens indeed. people should not be judge by how they look.
