How to deal with children who are so addicted to watching television?

With the development of technology, TV programs become more and more attractive nowadays and many people like watching them, especially children. However, watching too much television may do harm to children. More time on TV means less time on homework; what's worse, there are some bad information such as violence, sexually-explicit materials and so on which may easily have a bad effect on children and lead them to their bad behaviors. As parents, we are responsible to take good care of our children. What do you think we can do to deal with children who are so addcited to watching television?

Set rules and establish study habits especially during weekdays. Let them understand that there is a time for everything. At an early age they should learn and value time management so as not to develop a habit of being disorganized.

My parents set rules for my little siblings. They shouldn't open our television if they didn't finished their assignments. I even avoid them to watch too much on tv (as the eldest in the family). I even watch with my little siblings so I will see what show are they watching. Sometimes, kids needs someone who can watch over them.

Are you sure on what are you saying? Let me qoute what you said:

as parents we are? So you mean your a parent? Base on your profile picture you look like you don't even had intercourse yet, you look like 17 years old. And if ever your saying is true that you are a parent then your child must be about 2 years old (and not yet watching tv). Don't be offended it's just I hate people who are making stuffs up.

Well for me, watching television is not bad, well the threats are "what are on the TV". Well when I was a child I always love watching cartoons but I didn't get addicted to watching it even without a parents supervision.

I could say maybe its because of the program lineup on the channel where I watch my cartoons, before cartoons there is a news program where sometimes I actually watch because I am waiting for the cartoons which is next to it.

My reply is already like telling childhood,:Smile: well the point it is not bad to let them get addict to watching television because it harness their creativity which they cant get after childhood, let them enjoy it till they can. Because sooner or later they will stop being addicted to watching TV on their own.

I would recommend watching a TED talk entitled "School Kills Creativity". It is a great talk and surely you will understand why am I saying this absurd thoughts.

To me it is just a matter of controlling what your kinds are watching, and how many time they are watching it. And you should always promote the activity outside, like for example with sports or scout.
