How long can I drive without a wheel alignment?

My car veers to the left a little bit when I drive. It's not a struggle to drive, but it does obviously veer to the left when I let the wheel go, to the point that if I need to change to the left lane on the freeway, I just need to let go of the wheel and watch the car slowly change lanes. I was wondering since I am a bit low on cash right now, how long can I drive without getting a wheel alignment before something starts to get damaged? Also, I hear that some wheels get more waisted than others if you don't get a wheel alignment. Which wheels should I look out for in my situation?
