Getting to sleep when not tired

Basically I got no sleep last night and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get to sleep when your not tired.

I'm a really bad sleeper, it takes me ages to get to sleep and then when I get to sleep I cant wake up, and if I do wake up I just end up turning off my alarm.

Ive been talking to a few people and they have recommended a 'Power Nap' or a 'Caffeine Nap' consisting of consuming caffeine directly before trying to sleep. The caffeine will (or should) kick in just before I enter a deep sleep. The problem with that is that ive never tried it before and I dont think I will get to sleep before the caffeine will kick in, leaving me loopy for hours and then suddenly drop off when in the middle of a lecture tomorrow.

I think im just going to try get to sleep now, set an alarm for 8am and see what happens.

I'm just like this with my sleeping. Make sure every light and sound in your room is turned off. You can't sleep very well with light and sound everywhere, yo. You could also stay up all night and all day and go to bed really early one day with that tired and wake up really early and that cycle will repeat forever (not really, but hey) and you'll get the sleeps.

Yer doing an all nighter had gone through my mind.
But I wasnt sure how it would effect me the day after. Im down to my last bottle of Mountain Dew.
Last time I did an all nighter, I was about 12 and the day after I fell asleep while playing split screen Halo game with a tonne of mates.

Ive done some research and apparently a warm room helps you go into a deep sleep quicker - Heater off.
Fresh air helps you wake up, so ive opened my window - Its -5*C outside so its rather nippy.
Ive also moved my phone, iPad and alarm clock to the far side of the room, so that when they do go off I have to get out of bed.

Another problem is being at Uni, noise everywhere!

Ok so I spent 1 hour trying to get to sleep.
Got bored and then spent the time working out the average time I spend awake during the day and then worked out how many hours I had been awake since yesterday morning. I worked out that I should be going to bed around 11am :/

So its now 8am, I am kinda tired but im guessing thats because ive spent a good view hours sat in the dark trying to sleep xD
Got Uni in 3 hours, so im going to get a shower, catch up on work and be prepared for the rest of the day :)

drink whenever i go to the pub and get pissed i come home and i strugle to keep my eyes open and when im not drunk i have the same problem as you so if you are not lactose intollerent try drinking a glass of milk about 1 hour from when you want to go to bed and 30 mins before you even get into bed turn off your pc and stop using phones TV's and tea trays (Ipad) because the milk will alter a few chemicals in your brain and make you sleepy and the screens on your electronics reinacte sunlight and that tells your brain that its not time to sleep hope this helps

Ouch I bet you were tired.
Problem is after falling asleep, to wake up so you dont waste the time you have gained by staying awake.

yer i got ingrossed in the fallout 3 geck once was awake for 5 somin hours but honestly m8 try not looking at a digital screen of any kind half an hour before you go to bed maybe read a book or somthing and try not to make your brain work
