How many rings is it? Sometimes if it's one ring, it's just the xbox overheating or the cables in the back plugged into the xbox are very loose. However if it is 3, then there is no solution :'(

There is a better way of fixing this. You need to open the system up remove the metal that cools the system (the metal is being held by an X shaped pattern at the bottom) then you need to clean off the paste on the chip and metal, apply new thermal paste, reattach it all and make while having the system plugged in test how tight you need to adjust it. You will know when you get to the homescreen and you haven't RROD..

ALL that towel trick does is makes that old thermal paste rise making it a tighter fit between the chip and the cooling metal bracket. After a while that will dissolve or stop expanding really ending the console s life until somebody like myself refurbishes it.

just...just watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiXwA9T26W4

its not hard to do and its cheap.

Yeah I've read a lot about this online, but never tried.
I might actually try this soon. Thanks for the heads up.

Considering my Xbox is like 6+ years old, my thermal paste might be completely dissolved, haha.

Good thing I have a lacrosse tournament all weekend...

hahah yeah it could. xD learn how to do it and you could fix your console and possibly earn extra money by buying faulty consoles and resell them.
