Just had my first problem with my Desire.
Most, if not all, touch screen phones have a little light sensor probably at the top of the screen. This is so that the phone knows when its next to your ear and can disable to touchability so you dont smash the keypad with your cheek while talking. (The sensor is also used for a few other things on the HTC)
Well basically mine became really low sensitivity and wouldnt lock the screen unless I was pushing the phone down against my ear. Anyway, vodafone replaced the phone and all is good
