Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are going to need more than commen sense. First, you are going to need to learn the syntax for Java or C++. That will take a couple weeks if you no knowledge. Then it's not that hard to get started. But you won't be good since your programmer brain has not developed yet. I learnt from nothing to what I'd say can make a decent bot in around 2 days with common sense. I guess you don't have it which is why it took you weeks.
Anyway, it's REALLY not hard, go spend a day learning basic java off "The new boston" and then look at that guy from powerbots tutorials.
Total time: 3-5ish hours and you'll have made a basic mining bot
5-10ish hours and you'll have made a basic *** << bot of your choice
20-30 hours and you'll be intermediate.

Also, I can guarantee you that I can process new information tons faster then most people.
A flipping bot, a half barrows bot (I got lazy...), a private 3M/hour method bot, a granite miner I learnt while doing the power bot thingy, a scam bot that failed because it's REALLY hard to get it to reply to people without looking like a bot, some dungeonerring magic bot and a quiz bot.
All done in 3 days of around 4/3 so 12 hours.
Of-course none of it is public so you're gonna yell at me that I'm lying. (Though, I think I released the version that was half finished of the quiz bot to rsbuddy.com, I also released the magic bot)

Only decent bot in there is barrows, which probably why you quit. Everything else is like a couple hours bots. The flipping bot is easy as hell when you get all the widgets and components you need.

1. I started programming for RSBuddy two days ago.
2. The 3 weeks is the how long I have being doing C++ in school (VERY similar to Java)

I am 80% done with a castle wars bot, just adding in combat function which I need to loop through the array of players and get the nearest through the Calculations and since the built in functions in RSBuddy for interaction with other people fails, I already have an alternative laid out.. Then I need to add more randomization.
And yes, RSBuddy is extremely easy and just because someone can make a bot in it, doesn't mean there even remotely intermediate in Java unless they use some VERY clever algorithms to figure out things.
Well, I am off to school, sucks no that RG is blocked there.
