Explain buying and selling social media names

Why is buying selling these accounts and usernames so popular? What gives a name value? What will increase its value? Decrease? How can I safely do transactions when buying and selling?

I just can't understand why some of these names are hundred or thousands of dollars when their just random words lmao, idk if you could explain this thatd be cool.
 
Because short, grammatically-correct usernames are unusual. Because they're unusual they receive a lot of attention. It's for this reason that the market is largely inhabited by self-conscious teenagers looking for social acceptance from their internet friends.
 
Basically if you feel less than everyone. And you don't know what to do about it. You can have rare Internet pixels. This will give you a false sense of importance and distinction from everyone else. Then, instead of killing yourself, you can go around flexing your epenis at people who don't really care.

Ones name defines them basically.
Names in this world can mean a lot to someone and I guess people just have that taste for names that are rare to get and are truly one of a kind.
But the username can get value for its length and popularity and 'commonness'.
Names such as Pig can have a value of over 600$; while names such as Astrophysics could have a value of less than 40$

But yeah people just prefer the name : John than : JohnIsSuperGay66
 
it's all about getting attention by having a cool/nice/attractive username

Social media vanity URLs are an inherent part of the naming, branding and marketing process of companies, the bigger their budget, the more $$$ they will pay.
 
As more and more people enter this world, they are going to need usernames, one day everyone will have to have a username such as jen4905 because all the character only names will have been taken up.
Buy 3-4 char names now, sell them in a year and they should in theory be worth more.
