Breaking the habit.

Well, as some of you know I do chewing tobacco. (Dip, chew, snuff, etc.) Anyway you get the point, before you say anything no I am not a redneck. I took up this after I quit smoking. I've been dipping for nearly 3 years now. I'm trying to kick the habit but it's literally killing me. Going more than 4 hours without any nicotine gives me headaches like no other. I really don't want to do the patches. I just want to tough it out and kick everything as a whole. It seems to be impossible at the moment. Does anyone else here dip or has quit dipping? I need some advice. Even if you've never done it. What would you do if you were me? Please help.

If I were you I would do the Gum and the Patches even though you don't want to.

The gum actually doesn't seem as bad. I think the main thing is that it feels awkward if I don't have a dip in my mouth. LOL. As gay as that sounds. It's seriously harder than i thought. Anyone who has never did this, don't. It's honestly more addicting than smoking by far.

This is a odd habit that can not easily be broken. My friend dipped since he was twelve years old, he quit last year at the age of seventeen. He would dip at school, church, and he said he even would dip in his own shower. What helped him quit? This is going to seem odd, but chewing gum. He selected many packs of chewing gum until he found the most satisfying one (Stride 2.0: Spearmint). Any other gum would not satisfy him, so he purchased around 10 3-packs of gum and it lasted him a good month-or-so. Within that month I never saw him without a piece of gum in his mouth. He simply chewed his way out of a habit of chewing. Obviously this will not work for everyone, but why not give it a try.

That actually seems like a good idea. I dip in the shower as well. lol. I'd say some kind of mint gum would do me good as well. Since the only thing I can dip is any type of mint of Wintergreen. Thank you for trying to help me out man. It means a lot. I know this is bad for me. Which is exactly why I am trying to quit.

It seems to me like you're addicted, at least you realize this. As we know that's some people's number 1 problem somehow. Anyways, I would suggest you stop obviously. When you do that try exercising as much as you can because it really helps in those situations. Also eat more fiber then you usually do like cereal, whole grain bread, fruits, vegetables, etc.

They also said to go for sweet snacks like regular gum and other candies. You need to do some researching yourself, use what you find to get out of this.

I used to too, just switch to snus for a while and then quit. Start smoking weed or something thats better for you.

I wouldnt attempt quitting everything at once you will just be in a bad mood all the time.

I honestly just can't see myself being able to stop. I literally crave it like a food. When I'm in school I drink water and swallow the juice. It's gotten that bad..

I would really recommend taking it my way.. I stopped chewing but I still snus a bit.

I don't like snus though. Pouches really aren't for me. I like long cut and fine cut.

Ok well I'm not sure then haha... snus 4 life.

Addiction gets the best of everyone. Nicotine is the hardest thing to get off of. I know of people who quite doing crack , and meth but couldn't quite smoking cigarettes to save their life. Don't get too down on yourself. You are not the only person to ever experience this. You just need some support and good way of releasing stress. Almost everyone coming off an addiction have withdraws. You just have to be tough and find a way to get your mind off of it. I have faith in you and Don't give up ! :)

Never really had an addiction like this, but I do know that just making a quick stop is not good for your health. I think they call it going out "Cold Turkey", or something.
But that's all I got hope you find a solution.

Thank you for giving you input man. It means a lot. I'm also very jealous that you are in writers. I wanted in the group more than anyone I think. I don't know why I wasn't accepted.. I love writing so much man. Damn.

perhaps try hypnotherapy?
I have a friend that couldn't get it up without Viagra so he had to PLAN when he had sex with any of his partners.
he had 3 hypno sessions and hasn't touched Viagra since and can have sex at his own will.
addiction is mindset so why not let a hypnotist cement an idea (the idea of chewing tobacco being revolting lets say, for an example) into your subconscious while you're in the hypnotic state.

honestly, it's worth a go.
:)

I don't know, that seems a little risky in my opinion.

how so?
i don't know what idea exactly that a hypnotherapist would implant into your subconscious but do some research on it? I don't believe there are any risks at all.
may or may not work, who knows, why don't you find out? :]

It's not the fact of like risky really, it's just like I don't want to hate the thought of dipping. I just want to take a break really. For awhile.
