Look who came out on top here, good fight bot busters, you're no more.
This thread may be used for the discussion of Bot Busting events, as well as to discuss the issue of bots in general. Please note, anyone using the thread to spam abuse or promote the use of illegal 3rd Party software will be dealt with swiftly. This is the only warning that will be given.
It's been a regular source of feedback on the Rants forum that people would like to be able to see even a little bit of the impact we have upon people who use macro/3rd Party Software within our game.
Whilst we have previously - and always shall - kept our 'behind-the-scenes' systems a matter of privacy, I hope that this thread will be able to go some way towards proving our no-tolerance, proactive stance towards removing cheaters from the game.
Bot Busting Sessions - Where are we so far?
As you may have noticed, there have been several high-profile Bot Busting sessions over the past few days. This is something we shall continue to do.
There have been several posts on this thread by people who believe that the number previously displayed on the first post of this thread was the total number of accounts that we’ve banned for macroing this year. We actually ban hundreds of thousands of accounts every year and we felt that it would be misleading to display a significantly smaller number by only publishing the number of names collected during these in-game bot busting sessions.
We have removed the number of names collected during our Bot Busting sessions. We feel that it may be misleading to publish the number, as the reality is that the number of names that we previously displayed that we had collected and the number of accounts we ban overall is different. Unfortunately we cannot provide exact details of the number of accounts banned across the board. We do honestly feel that the impact we are having upon the cheating community within RuneScape is significant and we will always remain on the side of the legitimate player.
So what does this actually mean?
It's important to remember - the in-game Bot Busting sessions are just one way in which we combat cheating within our game. The number of bots banned through in-game sessions will always just be a fraction of the number that we take action against behind the scenes using our own, secret systems.
A fact that should also be considered is that on top of the total number of names we gather in the bot busting sessions alone, every single account that is linked with the accounts investigated will also have a full investigation carried out upon them. We can link accounts in multiple ways - which again, we cannot go into - and people who think that they can get away with having 'secret' accounts will be very sorely disappointed.
OK great. So what will you do? Just give them a little rollback?
We ban hundreds of thousands of accounts each year. Around half of these are members and we still hold a very firm stance whereby if you cheat, there is an incredibly high chance that you will be permanently banned from our game.
Rollbacks do happen in certain cases at our discretion, where we believe it would be more beneficial to do so. Now don't get us wrong; rollbacks are by no means a soft approach. Not only do we heavily roll back the skill that was built using a macro, we also heavily roll back other stats. On top of that, people who use cheating to gain wealth will have their banks heavily rolled back.
The fact that people spend money on macro software and then have their accounts rolled back beyond the point at which they started cheating is a hard hit.
But there are lots of bots, does the above number even have an effect?
In short - Yes.
Not only do we catch hundreds of thousands people through our current systems, but people who think they can get away with it just once or twice by popping in-game to bot now have the added risk of bumping into a group of 200 players, 5+ JMods and a load of PMods. Where we go is random, we cover all worlds and people cheating should be worried.
There is no such thing as a 'safe' place to cheat. If you cheat, you're going to get caught. If it's not instant, it will catch up with you.
eXero said:Exactly my point Crysis.
eXero said:I am not trying to be stupid. I don't have a clue what he was talking about. Stop being so butthurt because I actually post. I am actually active. I don't try and get "points/posts". I have enough of those, I don't need more. I want to know what he means, exactly how he means it. I read the thread in the link that he posted, and they did not say there were not doing bot busts anymore (like they have been), they just said they will be using their own system.

Or maybe they have updated their Bot System and now we are in dangereXero said:I was proving Crysis wrong. Chill.
I am glad you told us, Zach. I guess that can put botters at more of an ease.
