That username style should be removed, it's too confusing.

Yeah it is annoying, but it's easy to find out if they're banned or not, just look at their rep.

If you want to know if they're really banned or not their user title will say "banned" if it says anything different they aren't banned.

They can change that to their user title, the sure fire way to tell is if they have rep or not.

True but if they're going to go through all that work to pretend to be banned is a little... eh.. I don't want to insult anyone. Anyway, yes, rep is the for sure way to tell.
