I have a very close friend who is haunted by bad dreams in reoccurring memories to the point of depression, and was wondering if anyone has any advice as to helping her, or how she can deal with this. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could recommend her to a therapist, they usually get the trick done.
Or depending on her age, alcohol does it for me. Might be useful.

She's tried that, and it didn't help much. I mean, I could try to push her back into it, she didn't go for that long, but that's the experience with a therapist.

Bad dreams...nightmares? Did you know that lucid dreaming helps get rid of nightmares? Maybe she can try to master lucidly dreaming, that'll get rid of the nightmares.

This.
OR, depends on the memories. Is it something like nostalgia? Or is it something bad/embarassing he did in public when he didnt know it would be bad?

Not so much bad dreams/memories as the fact that something she wants will never happen. She's had some tough times in schoo/home but she basically has an overall low self opinion. She puts herself into this depression frequently and I think she's a bit unjustified in acting that way. She has friends who care about her and Mattis thinks the world of her. Her life isn't that bad.

Just thought I'd say something, this ^ is neutral. I'm neither supporting nor condemning anything.

If all these memories come from dreams, then it's probably because the subconscious wants to pass her a message.
