But unfortunately I'm forking out too much money out of my own pocket to keep the site going, so I'm having to resort to forum ads for the forum to pay for itself. Premium members can not see the ads, as I've made it one of the qualities for upgrading.

Tbh, ads aren't that bad and by clicking them you're helping the site A LOT. Google are very generous with ad revenues. If I make extra it all will go back into the site as I have nothing else to use it on at the moment anyway tbh.
