Dear Player,

We have strong evidence that you may have purchased and used botting software in the past, specifically ibot software.

Botting and the cheating it brings is destroying your game, violates Jagex's rights under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and any player that continues to engage in botting activity has no place in our community.

As part of bot nuke week we are offering you a 1 time amnesty and settlement lifeline, which is a chance to reform and change your ways. We'd like you to contribute to the community in a positive way, to compete on a level playing field as everyone else does and play in the true spirit of the game, with integrity. All of your accounts, main and otherwise, are now on our watch list and will be monitored for the use of ibot and all other inappropriate third-party software. Regardless of who you are or how long you've been with us, if you decide to cheat and bot ever again we will have no hesitation in: (1) permanently removing your account from our wonderful community in order to protect Jagex's rights under the DMCA, and (2) naming you as a defendant in Jagex Limited v. John Does, which is a lawsuit based on DMCA violations that is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (Civ. Action No. SACV11-00969-CJC).

Please note that this amnesty and settlement offer is protected under Fed. R. Evid. 408. If you ignore our offer and instead continue use botting software, we reserve our rights to pursue statutory damages against you for between $200 to $2,500 per act of past, present, and/or future botting in accordance with 17 U.S.C. 1203(c)(3).

We do hope you make the morally sound and lawful choice of turning your back on bots. We look forward to seeing you in game having fun in a way that is true to the spirit of fair play and respectful to your fellow players.

Yours sincerely,
Mark Gerhard

Hmm. Discuss.

iBot? What the fuck is iBot? Any why would they say I purchased it? Have never purchased anything outside of RSBuddy folks.

Too me it looks pretty fake. Yes, it is obviously not a phish, but seriously, it isn't against the law to bot.

I think there is a model of NeXuS called "iBot", but not sure.

Oh, yes you're right, NeXus is classified as iBot. So it appears they only catch Reflection bots.

In any event, I haven't botted with Nexus in ohhhhh 4 months, 5 months. and the last time I did bot was maybe a 3 weeks ago using rsbuddy.

So idk. Jagex is losing their minds.

It's from Jagex, whether they're bluffing or not. Its not against the law to bot, but it's not from someone outside of jagex. I traced the email, posted the headers and DNS'ed it. Its legitimate.

Jagex lost their minds when they released the GE. They caused their own original demise.

Well, you are breaking a rule in the game. So technically it is breaking a law. Because when you agree'd to sign up, you accepted their terms.

A flimsy law, that they would never enforce. But a law.

We accept terms every day, they aren't necessarily legally binding us, they're more there to save the publishers ass. Like if you're 17 and click "I'm 18+, Enter" on an age restricted website, you didn't break a "law", you lied, and give the website no liability if you get in trouble for being on the site.

Jagex has sued and failed almost every bot publisher out there and lost the battle, how the FUCK are they really going to turn around and say they're going to go after individuals? Not happening.

"A flimsy law, that they would never enforce. But a law."

Question.. When we signed up for Runescape.. Did we accept a TOS stating that we will goto prison if we bot? Surely I dont remember that. And if they changed the TOS when we were playing.. Can't we report them?

actually no contract can be made with a persons under 18, verbal or text =] gf TOS
thank you pre law mother

"If you are under 18, by using our website you are representing (i.e. making a promise) that you have consent from your parents / guardian to use Jagex Products in accordance with our terms and conditions and privacy policy. We may Stop any account if we are not satisfied that such consent has been given."

Thats how they get around that, you agreed that you had consent.

No. Because by accepting the TOS, which we all did, theres no way to play without accepting them you also accepted any changed made to the TOS.

"Changes
We may change these terms and conditions to reflect: changes in applicable laws; regulatory or security requirements; relevant guidance or codes of practice; technical alterations to Jagex Products; and to improve clarity and consistency. Please check the terms and conditions whenever you use a Jagex Product. If you are not a subscriber, we will treat your continued use of a Jagex Product as acceptance of these changes from their effective date as shown above. If you are a subscriber, we will treat you as bound by the changes on the first renewal date for your subscription after the effective date and so you should cancel your subscription (as explained below) before this renewal date if you don't like the proposed changes."

The only thing I'm hung up on is they do mention emulation, reverse-engineering, macroing and injection but only as a rule. Nowhere do they mention DCMA or any laws.

No, but it could be perceived that by allowing the applet to run one enters a contract with JaGeX, thus you are subjected to their newly implemented rules.

If you're not going to read the whole thread, dont post. I've adequately outlined why and how this isn't fake.

EDIT

It's fake for 1 reason and 1 reason only..

Jagex = UK
Uk = £
email = $$$

If you read the email, BEE TEE DUBYA, You'd see the lawsuit would be in California, Therefor any punishment or penalty would be in USD, fuckface.

You are not the only one who got this. I think it's either one player or many who are against botters trying to scare them.
