Solar Solar Solar SOLAR

Brusaw, who launched Solar Roadways with his wife, Julie, says the funds will be used to open an office, hire staffers and test his prototype in Sandpoint, Idaho, which wants to be the first city to have them.

The concept has also received interest from an Amtrak station and the Sandpoint Airport, but they'll start with sidewalks and parking lots in town next spring, Brusaw says.

"At the end of this year, we'll have a finished product," Brusaw said. "It's not going to happen overnight there's a learning curve here. Once we're convinced the final product works in a parking lot, we'll try residential roads. Then, eventually, the fast lane of a highway."

According to his calculations, the "smart" solar panels encased in double-layered, bomb-resistant, bulletproof glass capable of withstanding 250,000 pounds would, among other things, be able to generate "three times the electricity that we currently use in the United States," prevent accidents by melting snow and ice (and warning drivers of debris in the road with solar-powered LED lights) and even collect storm water. Oh, and cut greenhouse emissions by as much as 75 percent.

I honestly think this is pretty cool. We are advancing in technology which is cool. I know it will take a long time for this to happen, but to actually see it would be great. Watch the video. It make since.

I saw this about a month ago in my engineering class. It looks like a great idea.

I'd love to see this in my town, but I don't think It'll happen any time soon.

Woah, this is insanity. As the guy said, the sports bit sounds really cool.

This is an awesome looking prototype. Too bad my rundown town that I live in could never have the funds to develop solar roadways. Awesome invention though. Can't believe it was invented back in '06 & just getting recognized now.

Wow this is an amazing idea. We should definetly be funding this

This is so cool man, I wonder how many years it will take to actually happen and solar panels on the roadways in more than one place! :)

This is amazing, imagine how much money everyone would save!

I just watched @"Cann!bal"'s video & my hopes and dreams were murdered. But at least it's scientifically accurate and not spreading bullshit to the media.

What is the point of making them? Its not gunna do any difference.

Yeah it will. If they put solar roadways, then there will be new inventions that can improve the environment. Example; if they removed every car in the entire world that ran on gas and relied more on solar energy then that's a positive impact on the environment. Having solar roads creates a ton of energy, since roads just sit there and do nothing but heat up, why not use it and store energy for homes, electric cars, etc.. Rather than having those poles in the street with wires that people bump into. This invention could take out the companies that burn coal for energy and if they're taken out maybe this world wouldn't be so polluted. And maybe we can actually see fuckin galaxy/stars without clouds being in the way at night.

@ Square cube thing. I never listen in science. My defense :p

This looks amazing. Wonder if it can really be done though.

This is actually so sick, would take so long to do though.
