Complete Guide:

1. Introduction To Woodcutting
Woodcutting is a skill that allows a player to chop down different types of trees or vegetation. As a player chops a tree down the type of logs from the tree will appear in the players inventory. It is one of the most popular non-combat skills for free play users. For each tree, a minimum Woodcutting level is required, and a hatchet that is used to cut it. With each level up, a player will be able to cut trees faster than previously. The player can than use the logs to sell, fletch or burn. Thus making the Fletching and Firemaking skills rely on Woodcutting.

It's suggested you pick up the birds nest because it could be containing valuable seeds, rings, or Summoning eggs. The nest itself is also worth a few thousand gp when you crush it with a pestle and mortar. Loot all bird nests in your woodcutting adventures. While wearing an Amulet of Glory, Ring of Wealth or a Strung Rabbits Foot (Require 24+ Hunter) will increase your chances of Bird Nests drops.

The only differences between the Sacred Clay Hatchet and Volatile Hatchet is that the Volatile Hatchet gives a 120% experience bonus, resulting in 220% experience given. Also the Volatile Hatchet only lasts 1/10 as long as a Sacred Clay Hatchet. These bonuses can stack with Lumberjack Clothing.

Medium Jungle:
100px-Medium_jungle.png

Medium jungle can be found in Tai Bwo Wannai and needs a machete to cut it. Medium jungle requires 20 woodcutting and gives 55 experience. Instead of logs you will receive Thatch Spar Med. Medium Jungle gives random events but also is more dangerous to cut because sometimes level 60 tribesmen might appear and attack you.
Thatch Spar Med:
Thatch_spar_med.png

Dense Jungle:
100px-Dense_jungle.png

Dense jungle is the hardest to find of the 3 in Tai Bwo Wannai. There are a few spawns at Trufitus's Hut. You need a woodcutting level of 35 to cut and it gives 80 experience. Dense jungle is very dangerous to cut as it gives the normal random events but also Broodoo victims, Tribesman, or jungle spiders may appear as well. It is recommended you bring an Antipoison. Instead of obtaining logs you will get Thatch Spar Dense.
Thatch Spar Dense:
Thatch_spar_dense.png

4.1. Machetes

5. Canoes
Canoes are made by the woodcutting level to travel a long River Lum. River Lum goes from Lumbridge all the way to level 35 wilderness. Canoes are both for F2P and members. There are 4 different kinds of canoes ranging for various woodcutting levels. That can be made at 4 of 5 canoe stations, the only station you cannot create a canoe at is the station in the wilderness.

5.1. How To
In order to make a canoe you must be equipping a hatchet and have the corresponding woodcutting level to make the canoe. You can only craft a canoe at a canoe station along River Lum.
First you must cut down the tree at the canoe station.
choppingcanoetreedown.png

After the tree is chopped down you will see a log placed on the wooden horses.

5.2. Types of Canoes
There are only 4 different kinds of canoes you can build in RuneScape.

Log Canoe:
logpick.png
>
logcanoe.png
>
logcanoeinwater.png

The log canoe is the most basic canoe and can be made at 12 woodcutting, granting 30 experience after it's made. The log canoe can only travel up to 1 station away from where you made it but it can not go in to the wilderness.

Dugout Canoe:

The waka canoe is the best canoe that can be made with 57 woodcutting, granting 150 experience after it's made. The waka canoe can travel to any station away from where you made and go in to the wilderness.

6. Saw Mill
The sawmill is a members only minigame/area which requires 80 woodcutting to play. The sawmill generates the highest experience per hour for woodcutting at 100k/h but requires the most effort to do. It is only suggested to do this minigame if you have a crystal saw because it will give double the experience a regular saw would give and it does not lose charges.

In the minigame you get a job from the job board and then produce planks from the logs you get at the log pile. You will then cut your planks on a cutting table into 6 different kinds of planks required for the job you are doing.

6.1. Special Logs
Teakspeciallog.png
Specialmahoganylog.png

There are only 2 special logs, Teak and Mahogany that are members only. These special logs can either be sold or exchanged at the sawmill operator. If you only have 1 special log the sawmill operator will only offer to buy your log. But, if you have 2 special logs they can be used to exchange up to 26 teak or mahogany logs into teak or mahogany planks without paying.

7. Dungeoneering
Having a higher dungeoneering level is very beneficial for F2P users because it allows them to cut the only F2P maple trees in RuneScape. Maple trees used to only be members but with 30 dungeoneering you can access a dungeoneering resource dungeon containing 8 maple trees and 6 willow trees but no bank. This resource dungeon is located on Daemonheim at the far eastern end.

8. Free To Play Guide
First off, finish the tutorial island. If you used the woodcutting method in the tutorial island to get out you will be in Lumbridge with 4 woodcutting with nothing else.

This Map below will help you for almost all your woodcutting locations to begin.
beginingwc.png

Legend:
Red Line: Path from Roddeck's house to Bob's Axe shop.
Light Blue Line: Path From Bob's Axe shop to Normal Trees and Normal trees to bank.
Pink Line: Pathway to Oak Trees from Bank.
Gray Line: Pathway from Willow Trees to Bank.
Dark Blue Line: Pathway to a spot where you can power chop willows.

First step after getting out of the tutorial island will be to follow the Red Line to Bob's Axe shop and take one of his sample Bronze Hatchets.
Bronze_hatchet.png

After you obtained your bronze hatchet you will want to follow the Light Blue Line towards the normal trees. Cut and bank all the normal logs you obtain. Normal trees only produce one log before being cut down, so you can not 'AFK' chop them. You will want to aim for 15 woodcutting while cutting normal trees.

In total, if you are 4 woodcutting from the tutorial island then normal logs will be needed to cut to reach 15 woodcutting.
1 log = 25xp : 2,135 experience is required for 4-15 woodcutting.
2,135/25 = 85.4 which rounds to 86 logs needed to be cut.

Alternatively, if you got out of the tutorial island with 1 woodcutting then;
1 log = 25xp : 2,411 experience is required for 1-15 woodcutting.
2,411/25 = 96.44 which rounds to 97 logs needed to be cut.
Bronze_hatchet.png
>
87px-Normaltree.png
>
Normal_logs.png

15 Woodcutting
Congratulations you are now able to chop Oak Trees.
On the map above you will want to follow the Pink Line: which is a pathway that leads from Draynor bank to two different oak trees. You will want to be cutting and banking oak logs from 15-31 woodcutting. Take your Bronze Hatchet and go out chopping, make sure you bank your logs. Oak trees produce more then 1 logs per tree, so chopping these are semi 'AFK' able.

In total, 15-31 woodcutting will result in:
1 log = 37.5xp : 12,422 experience is required for 15-31 woodcutting.
12,422/37.5 = 331.3 which rounds to 332 logs needed to be cut.

>

Shopping

You may have wondered why you got 31 woodcutting when willows are only 30. Well, remember those logs you banked? You will want to travel up to the Varrock Grand Exchange. At the Grand Exchange sell all your logs you've obtained and purchase an Adamant and Rune Hatchet. You will still have some money left over too, also you can drop that Bronze Hatchet of yours.
Adamant_hatchet.png
Rune_hatchet_inv.png

Fork in The Road
This is where you are able to make several different choices of how you want to progress on your woodcutting journey.
1 is 31-99 woodcutting which is willows all the way.
2 is 31-45, 45-99 woodcutting which is willows to maples, then maples to 99.
3 is 31-60, 60-99, willows to yews, then yews to 99.

1. 31-99 Woodcutting
At 31 woodcutting you can decide on either making little profit, or faster experience. Banking the willows at Draynor would usually be faster experience then dropping them and you'd be making profit, but it is over crowded thus slowing your xp/hour rate. So you can either take the Gray Line: and cut willows then bank them or take the Dark Blue Line: which leads you to a place not usually crowded and you can power chop willows to 99. When you are woodcutting, use your Adamant Hatchet until 41 woodcutting. At 41 you will want to bank your Adamant Hatchet and take out the Rune Hatchet and use that till 99 woodcutting.

In total 31-41 woodcutting to be able to use the Rune Hatchet will require:
1 log = 67.5xp : 26,338 experience is required for 31-41 woodcutting.
26,338/67.5 = 390.2 which rounds to 391 logs needed to be cut.

Then 41-99 woodcutting will take:
1 log = 67.5xp : 12,993,260 experience is required for 41-99 woodcutting.
12,993,260/67.5 = 192,492.7 which rounds to 192,493 logs needed to be cut.

or

>
Willow_logs.png

2. 45-99 Woodcutting
For this method to work you will need to also have 30 dungeoneering. To begin you will need to cut willow trees at either the Gray Line: or Dark Blue Line: till 45 woodcutting, switching to your Rune Hatchet at 41 woodcutting. At 45 woodcutting you will want to travel to Daemonheim in the Resource Dungeon on the most eastern part of Daemonheim, which is currently the only free to play area to cut maples. The bank is not very close considering the Resource dungeon is on the most eastern end of Daemonheim and the bank is in the middle. You can always use the Ring of Kinship to teleport to the bank and run back, alternatively you could power chop the maples.
31-45 woodcutting with willows is;
1 log = 67.5xp : 46,679 experience is required for 31-45 woodcutting.
46,679/67.5 = 691.5 which rounds to 692 logs needed to be cut.

45-99 woodcutting with maples is;
1 log = 100xp : 12,972,919 experience is required for 45-99 woodcutting.
12,972,919/100 = 129,729.2 which rounds to 129,730 logs needed to be cut.

3. 60-99 Woodcutting
This method is the most profitable way of training woodcutting in free to play, but is the slowest experience. To get 60 woodcutting you should chop willows at from 31-60, switching the Adamant Hatchet for Rune when you reach 41. Willows should be chopped at either the Gray Line or Dark Blue Line. You can then travel to any of the following yew spots circled in red.
F2Pyewspots.png

In total;
31-60 woodcutting with willows is;
1 log = 67.5xp : 258,909 experience is required for 31-60 woodcutting.
258,909/67.5 = 3,835.7 which rounds to 3,836 logs needed to be cut.

60-99 woodcutting with yews is;
1 log = 175xp : 12,760,689 experience is required for 60-99 woodcutting.
12,760,689/175 = 72,918.2 which rounds to 72,919 logs needed to be cut.

9. Members Guide
This is my shitty 1-99 members guide. I have yet to make it better.

Bird%27s_nest_seed.png
COLLECT ALL BIRD NESTS
Bird%27s_nest_seed.png

Note: If you have 24+ hunter buy a Strung Rabbit amulet. It increases the chance to get birds nests.

First off, finish the tutorial island. Use the woodcutting method in the tutorial island to get out.

So now you are in Lumbridge with 4 woodcutting and nothing else.
This is what you want to do now.

beginingwc.png

You will want to follow the red line to walk to Bobs Axe Shop then trade with him and take one of the sample bronze axes.
Bronze_hatchet.png

After acquiring your bronze axe you will want to follow the light blue line to the regular trees.
Cut and bank the trees until you get 15 woodcutting.
Normal_Logs.PNG

Each Tree Gives 25xp every log.
It takes 2, 135 xp from 4 to 15. So it will take 86 logs to get from 4 to 15 woodcutting.

Congratulations. 15 Woodcutting. Make Sure you have those logs banked.

Now move on over to the Oak Tree right beside the bank.
a5dzbn.jpg

You will be at the red circle and follow the red line. As you can see (Kind of hard to see but) there is 2 lines indicating. Where 2 different oaks are. Cut one and when it goes to stump you can wait for it to come back up again or run over to the other one if you are impatient.
Oak_Logs.PNG

Remember bank these logs too.

Each oak log cut gives 37.5xp.
From 15 to 30 woocutting doing oaks it will take 10, 952xp which is 293 oaks.

Congratulations 30 Woodcutting!

Ok everyone knows where the Grand Exchange is right?
Do the grand exchange tutorial and sell all of your 86 normal logs and 293 oak logs. This should give you roughly.

Normal logs - 82 x 86 = 7,052
+
Oak logs - 61 x 293 = 17,873
=
24,925gp (According to Runescape's grand exchange March 2nd, 2011.)

With this 33k, buy yourself an adamant hatchet (Axe) and a Rune hatchet.
Adamant_hatchet.png
Rune_hatchet_inv.png

Now that you have your bronze hatchet, adamant hatchet and rune hatchet. Run back to draynor village. This is where you will cut willows with your bronze axe till 31 woodcutting.
Willow_Logs.PNG

(1,470xp = 22 willow logs giving 67.5xp each log cut.)
Willow_Logs.PNG

At 31 woodcutting drop that bronze hatchet and use your adamant hatchet!
Keep cutting willows till 41 woodcutting. At 41 woodcutting you can use your rune hatchet!
Rune_hatchet_inv.png

31-41 woodcutting requires 26, 338xp = 391 willow logs to be cut!
Willow_Logs.PNG

Woot, rune hatchet! Now back to those willows. You will want to either do 41-45 woodcutting or 41-70 woodcutting.

41-45 woodcutting is what some people want to do so they can then go cut maples for a nice 100xp every log cut. But, Maples are a lot slower then willows!

41-45 woodcutting with willows is 20,341xp, 302 willow logs.

You then will want to do your maples from 45-70 woodcutting.
Go to Seers village and cut your maples here!
1zh16pi.jpg

Using the red line from the bank to the maple trees.
Maple_Logs.PNG

45-70 with maples is 676,115xp, 6,762 maple logs.

Ps I do know ivy is 68 woodcutting but if you start at 68 you will be getting slower and less xp then you would if you stuck with maples.

OR

You can stick with cutting willows from 41-70 woodcutting at Draynor.
41-70 with willows will be faster then switching to maples.
Willow_Logs.PNG

41-70 woodcutting with willows is 696,456xp, 10,318 willow logs.

Yay! 70 woodcutting! Time to do the boring Ivy.

Ivy can be found many places. Some good common places for ivy are.
e62li8.jpg

20ze5ah.jpg

Ivy is located within the red circles.

You will want to be cutting ivy from 70-80 woocutting.
Ivy_icon.png

70-80 woodcutting is 1,248,441xp, 3,755 ivy since ivy is 332.5xp every ivy chopped.

Keep in mind that ivy does not fill up your inventory so you will not need to bank.

WOOT. 80 Woodcutting. Now you will want to get some money for a dragon hatchet because you don't want to be using the ugly rune hatchet for the rest of the way till 99.
Dragon_hatchet.png

First off you will want to sell all of your willows or maples. Also remember those bird nests you collected? You will want to have a pestle and mortar. Crush all of your bird nests after taking out the seeds or rings. Sell your crushed nests and valuable seeds or rings you've collected over time. You should have probably about 1m-1.5m Causing not that much more money to be collected.

Dragon Hatchet's are 1.5m (As of March 2nd, 2011)
http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/Dragon_hatchet/viewitem.ws?obj=6739
Yew logs are 482gp each (As of March 2nd, 2011)
http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/Yew_logs/viewitem.ws?obj=1515

If you did not have enough money from nests you will want to cut yew logs from 80-83 woodcutting. Other ways continue on with ivy.
Cut them here.
33e5r38.jpg

Cut in the red circle and bank where the red line goes.

80-83 woodcutting via yews = 687,046xp, 3,926 yew logs. (175xp per log)
Yew_Logs.PNG

After selling 3,926 yew logs at medium price in the Grand Exchange, you should have 1,892,332gp, 1.89m close to 1.9m.

Now with your 2m and the other money you had go buy that dragon hatchet for 1.5m according to RuneScape's Grand Exchange March 2nd, 2011.

WOOT Dragon hatchet.

Oh, wait. You're not 99 woodcutting yet..

Go back to that Ivy and cut it for a while.
Ivy_icon.png

80-99 woodcutting is 11,048,363 xp.
83-99 woodcutting is 10,361,317xp, 31,162 ivy.

This will take a few weeks because it gets really boring cutting stuff so do other fun stuff in the mean time, but you will reach the 99 woodcutting.

CONGRATULATIONS! 99 WOODCUTTING!

Go get your cape at the cape master right here!

This guide is being added on too.

10. Woodcutting Urns
There are 3 different kinds of woodcutting urns. First being Fragile Woodcutting Urns, then Woodcutting Urns and finally Strong Woodcutting Urns. Woodcutting urns are first made by the required crafting skill then filled while woodcutting. They are an item that will get you extra woodcutting experience when it is full and traded to Ernie.

Fragile Woodcutting Urn:

Fragile_woodcutting_urn_%28r%29.png
Fragile_woodcutting_urn.png
Fragile_woodcutting_urn_%28full%29.png

Fragile Woodcutting urn (unf) is made with 15 crafting at a pottery bench with 2 pieces of soft clay. Fragile Wooductting urn (unf) can be changed into a Fragile Woodcutting urn (nr) by firing it in a potter oven.

You then can use an earth rune with your Fragile Woodcutting urn (nr) to create a Fragile Woodcutting urn [r]. To obtain the Fragile Woodcutting urn you will need to keep your Fragile Woodcutting urn [r] in your inventory, so when you chop trees that require a woodcutting level of 35 or lower the urn will fill with wood chips. As the urn fills up it will turn into a Fragile Woodcutting urn.

With your Fragile Woodcutting urn, keep it in your inventory so when you cut any trees it will fill up. After you have gained 2125 experience with the Fragile Woodcutting urn in your inventory it will become a Fragile Woodcutting urn (full). The full urn will allow you to click on it and you will get teleported to Ernie, who you may talk to to get 425 woodcutting experience.

This is the one that was posted in the Writer's Section before it was closed?

Thanks @"Oxide" and yes Steezy this was posted in the writers section. I still have yet to re-make the 1-99 members version of the guide. I did some but I didn't have the new stuff saved to a text document and this thread was lost with the closing so -.-
