So after being tired of all the answers given by members regarding resets I decided to ask MS. Here is what they said.

People also say you can track a V1's past history by viewing their Bungie.net's account on Halo 2. Idk if thats true, But.

Last time they played H2 which is somewhat accurate but they could have logged in just for a minute and then it reset the inactivity I guess.

Whats a v1 and whats a reset?

V1: made on the original Xbox, never brought over to the 360. They're basically old inactive accounts.

Reset: those old accounts get "reset", or deleted, so that new people can claim those gamertags.

Thanks Skunk! That helped a lot :p

V1 gamertag a gamertag created on original Xbox live.

A reset is when the account is deleted and the gamertag associated with the account is put into limbo where it waits to be recycled back into the system for other Xbox live users to change their names to.

An account may be deleted after 7 years of inactivity but I have heard if there are credit cards linked to some v1 gamertags then the accounts won't be deleted thus the gamertag won't be reset.

Oh wow usually they dont even respond if you ask them that.

I saw somewhere on Forumkorner a thread where a gyazo picture showed a conversation where a xbox employee stated that.
