Writing an app

Well my parents read an article in the paper of how a 12 year old kid made an app...now they think "I can do it".

I'm ignoring them so far, but how hard is it? Do you need a good knowledge of java and such? Anyone ever written one before?
 
You're asking the wrong forum. You should ask a coding forum like dreamincode.net or some site that is dedicated to programming topics.
 
I can make an app too. The problem is, you need a mac/buy a program for like 80$ or sumfin. The application doesn't have to be advanced just a nice gui. That is what people care about mainly.
 
If you know how to put together legos; you can make an app in the android development.
 
Legos were always my downfall...

I was thinking for like apple stuff but if android is way easier I could try.

I'm wanting to do games, not sure how hard that is.

Well I have seriously no experience, so I figure it could help me learn. I'll look into that later thanks ;D.
 
Android is much easier to code in, but yes you need pretty good Java knowledge to make a game someone would actually play. I have done a ton of research on Android and the android app market because I was the CMO of a fairly new android app company. There is much more room to grow in Android, and the android market is your best option.
 

Sounds great, If I figure out how to get on RG without a proxy I'll maybe start trying to learn lol.
 
It depends on what platform your making it for.

If it's for Android, it'll obviously be in Java.
If it's for iOS, you have to make it in Objective C.

I'd say go for Android, since it's cheaper to get the app published once your done, it's easier to make, plus it's $25 for life if you want a developer account with Google, vs $99 a year for Apple.
 
Wow ok sounds good. Now I got to learn java lol. Attempt number 3 I think lol. Any good places to learn java that could help me towards making an android app? I'll try whatever it is that pyratepig suggested but any more?
