I'm very near to being able to afford my new computer. However, I need to decide whether to get Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional.
Which would you recommend, and why?

Both the same thing. But Windows 7 Professional can support up to 144GB RAM.

So there are absolutely no differences other than that?

How much RAM can Home Premium support?

I'm not too sure, but if you're going to get more than 4GB of RAM, go with a 64bit OS.

Bump this thread, want to make sure I don't buy Home Premium and then regret it.

I mean if not having half the features you could have for 55$ more, I would pay 40$ for file encryption and remote addy on it's own.

It's $60 more. You can invest that on better stuff

People buy OS's these days? On a serious note. You will not see much/any difference between Win7 Pro and Ultimate. But do make sure you get 64-Bit

If he can't afford a proper motherboard he's in position to buying ram at all.
