I myself visit forums that relate to things i am interested in. I visit them to meet other people that have the same interests that i do; also to learn new things.
Sometimes I'll get some inspiration from them, which is why I appear more at graphics forums (I say appear, this is actually the only place I actively post at that isn't a 'social network' style place, like Deviant Art, Artician or Facebook.)
