Where can you get Apple product serials?

I was thinking of buying that $50 ebook on getting apple products but one of the requirements is to already own a serial code. Where do people usually get these codes? Would it be possible to go to Wal-Mart buy a iphone get the serial, return it and still be able to use that serial?

Ya they might be, but I dont think the admins on the forum would allow virus on downloads. but I might be wrong.
