What type of guitar should I buy?

I want a guitar but unsure what kind. I am thinking a semi hollow electric. I want to play songs like thae band life house, daughtry, and the ballad songs from stained and seethers song broken. I know that a Acoustic would be the choice but I want the aoustic/ electric sound. Will the semi hollow electric do that type of sound.
