What is quality?

I try to be high quality on RuneGear, but now I ask myself: How do I do this?

Some people sees quality as writing long posts that stays on topic, but I can write a long post that is really really low quality.

Some people sees quality as writing helpful posts that stays on topic, but then I ask myself, can't helpful be low quality? Yeah, it still can, as quality does count as long posts also.

Some people sees quality as having good grammar and stays on topic. Well, is this high quality? No it's not! It's high grammar skills, sure it can be two things, but people can have good grammar but still be low quality.

Is quality all this together? Good grammar, helpful posts and long posts? No, in that case, I prefer short posts as then it helps someone and they don't have to read the whole wiki.

Now, while writing this, I kinda figured it out. Quality must be being helpful with understandable grammar, as easy to understand and as short as possible. Sure, a long posts does look better, but it takes longer time to read. I mean, if someone asks the question... for example... "Why is people low quality?" you don't have to write a book about it, you can just post a simple answer that still answers the question asked.

Does grammar flaws make you low quality? My opinion, just huge grammar flaws. Like typing "hej jo don umdestan vat dis sajs!" as it takes time to understand, so instead of typing "Hey you don't understand what this says!" you type that, that is indeed low quality, but if you type "hey you dont understand what this says" I could still consider it being high quality, as you still understand what it says, even though there is some grammar flaws.

Does short posts make you low quality? No, just if your posts are waaay off topic and/or doesn't help the OP, then yes, it is low quality. If this is the OP and someone say "Haider I am not low quality", it doesn't have anything to do with the original post. But if someone says "I don't agree with this", well, it is not low quality, but as it doesn't state anything more, it can be considered low quality.

Does 'spamming' make you low quality? Yes, but 'wale' he wasn't spamming. Now I am just using Wale as an example because people were flaming on him because he was posting a lot.
Here is the definition on spam: Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail.

Now I know it isn't really the right description, but still, he wasn't spamming. He was just being active. Yes indeed, he had a reason for being active, but does that make you low quality? My opinion, no, it doesn't.

Does long posts make you low quality? No, it doesn't, as long as it is stays on topic. But if they take forever to explain nothing, it could be considered low quality. If it is a detailed guide on how to do something, it is great, as then it probably has a great explained and detailed guide.

Though it is somewhat opinion based, quality tends to speak for itself.
As you mentioned, staying on topic, being helpful, and using proper grammar are all contributing factors.
Certainly though, demerits can be mentally awarded for a lacking in one or more of those areas.
However, a strong and positive foundation in any or all of the other factors can balance out the more negative ones.
I suppose it really does depend on the user though.

Yeah. You have a point. It is opinion based. But my opinion is now "Someone who sums up a answer that is easy to read and understandable, for the OP's question.

I tend to look at Quality a different way

First I look at Low Quality Kids who Spell like this "N0 m@n I dun kno wa7 y0r" you get what I'm getting at And kids who post in threads that They shouldn't post in Like For instance If you post in a thread just to say Lol Wish i had 50m and that's it Then yea...
Like you have to actually post and be there to post a post not just be there to get your post count up
And kids who Lurk threads without posting Then when they find the chance When they do post They be total dicks to people with Disrespect and What not

Quality Would be the exact opposite of the above

I don't think Using proper punctuation makes you any better then any one else
Like kids would look at how I talk and Would say "Oh no he has run on sentences and He doesn't post Commas and periods after sentences"
Like as long as its Spelled correctly and People understand what your saying Then its ok in my book

Hope that gives you the just of it
I can go more but I'm really tired at the moment and I just Don't want to ramble on and on for a page or two

Did you even read the OP? I said numerous times that as long as it is understandable, it's good, and without punctuation and commas, it is understandable.

quality

Definition

In manufacturing, a measure of excellence or a state of being free from defects, deficiencies, and significant variations, brought about by the strict and consistent adherence to measurable and verifiable standards to achieve uniformity of output that satisfies specific customer or user requirements. Yes I did read it
Then I replied to the thread

Question of the thread "What is quality?"

I explained what it was in my view

lol at everyone trying to look cool by using grammar and googled words

@[iolaka]
Yea most people do Google words Its rather annoying When they don't understand the meaning of the word they used and what not

I my self when writing Just use the spell check on the screen if I misspell words
Its not that I'm a bad writer or any thing its just I miss buttons on the keyboard and so on

And mostly the kids who think they are cool by using Grammar are the Grammar Nazi's

So, you're teaching us about quality?

No likes? Okay now that we can move on.. Lol.

Maxie, your asking an extremely vague question, you cannot possibly get a real answer out of what you're asking.

You can, however, get an answer if you ask a specific question, for example, you're asking "What is Quality".

Now inside that question are a bunch more, what is a quality post, what is a quality user, what is a more important feature in a post out length of grammar, the list goes on.

People assume that if they aren't doing HQ posts or aren't a HQ user themselves they naturally assume they're LQ.

What's wrong with being satisfied with in the middle, sometimes doing LQ, sometimes doing HQ, while mainly remaining in the -normal- zone.

We all have different opinions, I'll state mine when I'm on my desktop.

if sum1 talks like dis den i fink its lqp.

If they talked like this it's better, But not perfect.

if sum1 talks like dis bt they stay on topc, sre it is hrd 2 reed, but is ok.

If somebody talk like this and stay on topic, It's better.

If somebody talks like this and it's off topic, It's annoying, and LQP.

Pretty much different for everyones opinion, as on some threads it's hard to give HQ answers.

and not sure if many of you have noticed, but i see alot of posts from staff/super mods that are just 1 word answers but aren't considered LQ?

Stay on topic and don't be a dumb ass.

That's what high quality is.

Agreed

As long as your on topic and Your not being a Total dick or just being retarded I think you will be fine
