What attracts you to a website?

What really attracts you, and captivates your eyes?
What are some things that really make you want to browse through websites, besides the content?
I'm designing my teacher a website design for her business, and I'm just curious on what is attractive, and what isn't.
Not that I don't know what I'm doing, I just wanted someone else's opinion besides people in real life who have no idea what they are talking about.
 
I join forums because of their content and their members. What is a good forum without good members?
 
I agree with the two posts above, The members, content, activity, layout.

Some of them do.
And, I'm not talking about forums at all, I mean social networking sites, uploading sites, blogs, chatrooms, etc.
 
How it looks.

I hate going to a website and just be blinded by a completely white background.
 
CONTENT, forums especially if they have like 10 posts i leave, also design if i hate the design i leave. Hope it helps
 
The main thing that attracts me would have to be visual appearance (skin, etc.), if a site is absolutely hideous, I leave right away.

I agree with everyone who said the layout.
 
i think Layout. Easy on the eyes, nice contrast. Darker colours like Runegear not too lite
 
The first thing I look for is a "Unique Design".
Although it doesn't necessarily tell you about the "forum members, etc.".
It shows the "Uniqueness" of a forum and I think it's potential to grow as a whole.

In all seriousness, how to's that are new to me interest me alot.
