Well, I've just inherited the Mandiant Ransomware Virus (or something along those lines).

It's locks your computer and sets your screen to some picture where it pretends being Interpol and saying that you committed some sort of cyber crime. The virus doesn't give you access to your computer until you pay $300 via MoneyPak/Gram (obviously a scam).

So, basically my entire computer is locked up until I get it fixed at Best Buy. I went through PCMRI, and they cannot do anything about it nor identify where it came from.

Now I'm just running shitty, safe mode until I can get it fixed.

Such a wonderful day.
 
Just turn it off and back on a few times and it will eventually bypass it, it happened to me a year ago.

I tried it about three times earlier this morning because I thought my computer just took a shit, but it kept doing it. The support guy told me that I have the new thread (strand or whatever they call it) of the virus, which is why I have to take it in. I want to look for some other way to fix it, but I'm worried that something's going to happen again.
 
could back up any files in safe mode and factory restore it?
wipe it clean.

Anyway, that really sucks, man. I hope you get it fixed. I have a Mac, I've never had a virus.

You were right. Thanks. I turned it on and off twice more, and now everything is running perfectly. Thanks again, man.

My friend on Xbox was telling me about this once and he didn't know what to do so he threw his computer away lol. I wish he knew about how to fix it haha.

The virus was disabled long enough for me to get on and remove it, thanks to Jeep. Closing this now.
