Long time monitor manufacturer ViewSonic has just launched the company’s new LED monitor featuring a 27” diagonal size. The new display touts a very fast 3 millisecond response time and a very high 10,000,000:1 contrast.
Readers should not fall prey to the company’s big marketing numbers – the impressive contrast value is a dynamically obtained value, while the typical contrast value is a more modest 1,200:1.
Monitor enthusiasts will appreciate the 1,200:1, as it’s about 20% over the average 1,000:1 that most LCD monitors have these days.
The fast response time is also a non-standard value, as it doesn’t measure a complete pixel lighting and shut off cycle. The standard value measures the time it takes a pixel to light up (white) from being completely off (black) and then to turn off (black) again.
ViewSonic correctly mentions that its 3ms value only refers to a grey-to-grey (GTG) variation, but this is still a very good value.
The new monitor is designated as model VX2703mh-LED, and by dropping the classic CCFL lighting and adopting LED backlighting it manages to achieve a 40% power consumption reduction when compared with a standard 27” LCD monitor.
ViewSonic’s VX2703mh-LED 27” energy efficient monitor sports a standard FullHD 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution and a decent 300 cd/m2 typical brightness.
The panel features a standard anti-glare, hard-coating (3H) and the connectivity is well-endowed with a standard 15-pin VGA D-SUB connector, digital HDMI v1.3 and DVI-D ports, a 3.5mm audio jack for audio-in and another one for audio-out.
The maximum power consumption is 36 watts and the estimated price is a high $299 (€244)
