The recordings capture the shocking moment Smith taunts Kifer just before he shoots her, saying, 'You're dying, b****'
Prosecutors key evidence was an audio recording that captured the killings in chilling detail, including Smith's taunts as the teens died
On Tuesday jurors convicted Byron Smith, 65, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killings
Smith never denied shooting the teens, but told police he had feared for his life.

Not even murder in my opinion. Protection of your home. I would kill whoever robbed me too, if I caught them in the act.
Although, he did go overboard a bit. Like a lot actually. But still not murder. He should go get mental help.
 
The fact that he was focused enough to taunt them as they lay dying is evidence enough that he was enjoying it. Self-defense is out the door on this one. This guy deserves everything he's got coming to him. Yes, the kids were wrong for breaking into his home, but this guy showed signs of psychopathy.
 
Damn, That was freaky to listen to! He is quite clearly insane! Even though they shouldn't of broken in he should be still locked up he's a maniac!
 
If this man was normal, he would remember every moment of that night. Every sound, every movement, every shot. In his defense, they entered his house and he took action. His action was good to have a gun in my eyes but he took it too far. I would never aim to kill unless its at war. At least put a fucking bullet in their leg or arm. He deserves life for that nonsense.
 
I think that the man was in self defense and does not deserve life in prison. If anything I would have done the same exact thing. I definitely would not have said some of the things he said but I mean if you were put into that situation you would be scared to death as well.
 
Well that's their fault for breaking into a house trying to steal. They do have the right to bear arms and protect themselves in their own home if they feel threatened.
 
I'd taunt a couple of morons if they thought they could break into my house and not feel the wrath of cook.
I really don't think they should have gave him life in prison. Maybe like 10 years in a halfway house once he gets out he'll go straight to a nursing home. Rather than have him spend 20-30 years in torture.

No they dont. Its against the law. If they have a weapon, then you can. Its a stupid ass rule.

What? I'm talking about the owner of the house, he has the right to own a gun with permission and be able to protect himself from trespassers. If he feels threatened then he can shoot them.
 
I usually support the home owner on this subject but this man seems like a sour old bloke that chose to kill these teens. I have posted a picture of one of the biggest cases of home protection murder in Britain and it was nothing like this. It seemed to me the kids weren't prolific burglars, just maybe doing it for a dare or just simply childish, though they did wrong, I don't think they deserved to have there life ended so sudden. Please don't be narrow minded, it would have been a different story if these were your children.

Five years later this mans conviction was overturned by a high court judge as they couldn't prove murder. He has constant death threats but doesn't regret shooting the Irish traveller, it was the 6th time his farm house had been burgled!

Guns are a big no no here in Britain, only mainly registered farmers can own them for hunting or clay pigeon shooting. They should be banned here and USA. They always end in tears.

I'm all for self defense. But this was to much. But then again dumbasses shouldn't be breaking In to homes.

Ive seen several cases that state otherwise. If they dont have a weapon and you kill them, you'll be getting in trouble.
 
As mentioned in previous posts, they were trying to rob from him.
It's not like he was out killing people without cause.
